Recommendations for Car Security Cameras and Alarms

Hi OzBargain peeps,

Hope you're all well :)

On Monday – Tuesday night my car was entered (I’m certain I locked it, but there’s no damage on entry), and my Blackbvue dr750s-2ch was stolen :'( and some other low value stuff.
I've made a police report, but it's very unlikely that the person will be caught and this irks me the most, followed by the loss of my Blackbvue…
Just glad they didn't check my boot as there was over $200 of new fishing gear there.

So now I want to get an camera system to record inside the car, and a alarm system. So I'm looking for help on what I should buy to achieve this.

On AliExpress, I've looked at tiny cameras with night vision, micro SD, and Wi-Fi. I'm thinking of getting two cameras and connect them via Wi-Fi to a old phone that’ll record the footage that I'll hide in the car.
Alternatively, I do have a T’eyes CC3 Android head unit that I might be able to connect the cameras to record. I'm guessing the T’eyes head unit would only uses less than 10w of power, so that shouldn't be much of a drain on the battery. However I'm not sure how this would all be possible – if someone knows how I would love to know.

Note, that I know those cheap little cameras on AliExpress do have micro SD slots to record to, however I wanted to record to a device via wifi just in case the thief takes the SD cards.

P.s. my car is a Toyota Corolla 2013 Ascent Sedan.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers,

Wystri Warrick

I'm not sure what a security camera will achieve; it most likely would not prevent someone stealing from your car.
Same with an alarm, but it may deter some.

    • Security camera would only get me a photo of them to give to the police. If someone is going break into my car I want they caught and face justice.
I'll definitely be getting an alarm system too

The camera might get you a photo.
        It might help the police.
It probably won't get your goods back.

        • I know, but if the alarm doesn't deter them, I want them caught and to face justice.

I'm very very sure it was my neighbour. I've got a few bad neighbours, drugs, excessive drunkenness, domestic violence, and their place looks like a dump. A neighbour even told me that he thinks it was the same guy I was suspecting.

Just lock it next time and don't leave valuables in the car. Replace blackvue with a $70 special and never worry about someone breaking into the old corolla again.

    • Yeah lesson learnt. Will never leave valuables in the car. Just so grateful that my fishing gear wasn't stolen.

I'll be replacing the Blackvue with this

That's the way. Any thief will know it's worthless on FBM or GT so will just move on to the next car.

Do you have the T'EYES head unit?

Do you live in a high crime area?

Chances are it won’t ever happen again for most people. The money you spend on an alarm system won’t be worth it, except perhaps if you live somewhere this is likely to occur several times in the next few years.

    • Yeah I do live in a fairly high crime are.
A couple of years ago my bicycle was stolen by my neighbour… More recently on Wednesday night, one of my good neighbours just had a ornamental garden piece stolen.

Crikey. Get out of there, quick. A stolen garden ornament? Call CSI.

        • Lol that was just the most recent example….
