Porting Stuck in Limbo State. Txts Work but Not Calls

Hi,

I ported my number from Coles Mobile to Vodafone yesterday. Received a txt message saying my number has been transferred and activated from Vodafone this morning. The Coles Mobile SIM has also been deactivated (no reception when in phone).

However, I found only txts are working not calls. i.e. I can send/receive txts to/from my existing number but calls seems to be registered against the temporary Vodafone number I had when I activated the sim (before the porting process). When I call other people, their phones show the temporary Vodafone number. When people call both my existing number (the number I ported) and the temporary Vodafone number, they get 'Your call couldn't be connected, please check the number and try again'.

I contacted Vodafone and they said everything looks good and asked me to give it 48 hours. However, I'm sceptical about it will work after 48 hours and my existing number will not be contactable for a long time.

I have tried restarting the phone, and even putting the sim in a different phone. Same issue.

Any ideas why this could have happened?

Cheers

  • Sounds like the port is stuck in limbo.

    Porting stuck in limbo state

I checked google maps. I can't find the state of limbo anywhere.

    Sorry I can't help.

  • If SMS is working and no change after 48 hours I'd just port out to another provider. At least that's possible.

    • but I' lose the $250 vodafone prepaid plan. 😓

  • Weird, why would the temporary number have been activated for voice calls. Maybe pester Vodafone on social media to investigate and resolve it sooner.

    • I did. They gave me a number for the porting team. Called the porting team who said the port looks good and asked me to call technical support. Technical support checked everything and said everything is fine on their side. After 2 hrs on the phone with their support teams I'm back to square one. 😫

It could be a network setting in your phone. Go to those settings and check that everything is set to auto and not specific to your previous provider. Else try it in a spare phone to be sure it isn't an issue with network bands ect.
