Baby Bunting is having a '48 hour online frenzy' and some decent deals are to be had on all things baby! Can't vouch for the quality of any of the products as I'm only just started to get my head around all of the things we need for the upcoming little one.

Regular price for the Infasecure Kompressor Caprice is $449, so $400 off for two.

We have one of these, bought at a similar bargain for 1 at $250 from BB - no issues for our kids in it, had the eldest rear facing up to around 2 years old and now using again on #2
Fairly narrow too if that is what you're after, sold us on being suitable for up to 4 years but at around the 3 yr mark we ended up getting a Britax Maxi Guard as well

Congrats on the upcoming little one. Just to let you know: Baby Bunting and the other big ones always have "massive" sales. Facebook Marketplace is best for most things, and most things should be second-hand. Baby Bunting are better for the big ticket items that you can return if there's a problem, otherwise go for cheaper stuff online.

About baby seats, you'll probably need two in total as you need to have them until 8 years old depending on the state, and no seats seem to quite cover all age ranges you need a seat for. Also note: they "expire" (read: are no longer considered safe according to Australian standards) after ten years, so second-hand is not so great for these if you care about safety. Australian standards are also much more lax compared to Europe, so if you care a lot about the safety of your child, research further.

Baby Bunting have a good car installation service, and Victoria has a Safe Seats, Safe Kids programme where they can install for free. But go to these and ask to be taught how to do it, don't just leave it with the installer and walk away and say you don't care — they get this a fair bit!

So, after all that, this one you posted could well be good if the reviews check out. Thanks for posting.

"only just started to get my head around all of the things we need for the upcoming little one"

Just remember that the cheap seats in Kmart and big W and target are all tested to the same Australian standards so that can help save some money also

Don't let brand / shop influence your decision if you can avoid it but it's so difficult….

Best of luck with the new member of the family!

You know the newborn has a spreadsheet keeping tabs on the money you spend so they can guilt trip you when they grow up saying you didn't spend enough. You short changed me so I'm going to play up.

We did a lot of research before buying a car seat/capsule for our first, and found this site the best for safety ratings and reviews:

    Good luck!

My husband is 1.95m and we have a jeep compass. Our kompressor sits behind the passenger seat and when rear facing, this seat takes up quite alot of space and it jams his knees into the front console if he sits in the passenger seat. It fits better behind the driver seat as the driver seat is lower and the top of the baby seat sits between the neck rest area so doesnt push up against the seat, not sure if I'm making sense LOL but not sure how to explain it.

Dont have an issue apart with this seat from that, but just something to take note of as we didnt think of the amount of space we have in the car!

We bought a britax graphene for the 2nd child as it is more compact.

Im short so it doesnt bother me when I'm in the passenger seat. Lol.

      • 1 great seat and quite narrow so might be able to get 3 across, or 2 + a person for a shorter trip. But very long, that is actually a downside of the 0-4 category they are tall enough to fit quite a long kid so when turned around they are quite 'long' as you lie them down. In my wifes large hatch back we had to put it in the middle seat with the length going between the front two seats.

This seat isn't ISOFIX so that would be a little more annoying.

I've had 3 seats in the backrow…platinum pro sict, Platinum sict (both ISOFIX) and a Meridian (non ISOFIX seat) which was highly annoying, especially with three seats in the back row!

Everytime I needed to move big items and remove the seats then reinstall them…zzzzz.

Check Gumtree for seats! parents will flog them as soon as they can/move to boosters.

Car seats (new) & baby change table & bassinet (not required imo) are where new parents get stung on. My first kid was all bells and whistles, the 3rd kinda ended up being changed wherever lol.

We ended up making nappy change boxes: a shoe box which contained nappies/cream/bags/wipes and had one in each area of the house.

    Another tip:
mattress protector + sheet + mattress protector + sheet your mattress, (waterproof protectors @Kmart). In the event of a late night vomit or wee. Rip the two layers off, while the kid gets changed then you all go back to bed. Instead of finding all new bedding.

    • Good tip re double layering. Cheers.

listen to the above posts … new "premium" car seats are over rated … new parents are in the panic mode and they spend top dollar.

this one isn't even that great for the price.
can highly recommend Maxi cosi euro range (second hand <150 range) ticks all the boxes and very durable

Mate…the stress around getting items for babies is pure BS. In a throw away society..it's everywhere.

You can literally spend $millions, or spend nothing. As soon as people catch on you have a bub you will have offers of seats, cubbies, bikes, swings etc coming at you left, right and centre.

We originally bought an EZ Switch for $99 from Baby Bunting (it's crap..like all the rest..see below), and swapped it between 2 cars. Rediculously easy…no idea what crack people are smoking who can't work out the frame sits flat against the seat, no twists in belts and do up everything tight can't work out).

Anyway, we are pretty lucky as we are in an elderly area. On hard rubbish days, the grandparents (who have used the car seat and everything else 5 times if lucky turf them). So I decided to grab a free seat for car 2. It looked like new, belts weren't fraid, no damage to the frame, foam had no cracks or impacts etc and in 10 seconds you can whip the covers off and wash em. Voila..new seat. Check the date on the side, and follow the 10 year rule. Small changes in 10 years, but everything helps..maybe (chin pads on newer seats..kids will hate it/ get burnt on hot days.. avoid). Since then I have seen maybe 8 more seats. Gave one to the grandparents, and upgraded the free seat to a newer free seat.

As for this seat, it was one of the freebies I didn't take, even for free. With its round top it's too long and people in the front will end up with their knees in their ears. If you have G wagon or mini van, fine. If not, give it a miss. Basically look at length (take note of the top of the seat and how it will sit against the back of your cars front seat when installed). Good ones are cut out/ contoured. Crap ones (like this) are rounded in the middle. Look at width, head support, padding comfort, and how easy it is to get them in and out, and will they be able to get themselves out when you don't want them to (kids love pushing buttons). Belt path is also super important for rigidity (even isofix is just belts), which is criminal for lateral impacts (Australian design rules are rubbish). In my opinion every seat is crap. Euro seats are infinitely safer (what would Volvo know about safety), but banned here. One exception is a Nuna Click. The only rigid isofix..but it's a capsule that they will outgrow before you get them home from hospital, so don't buy it. So make peace that whatever seat you get will be crap. This is a bit uber crap.

Kids grow out of this stuff so fast, and people need to turf it to make room for MORE kids 'stuff'. So our little one at 1.5yrs old has swings, rockers, push cars, bikes, cubby, water table ..I could go on for an hour, and it cost $0. Clothing..forget about it. Everyone buys a set as gifts. She will never wear all her clothes. Totally agree with change table comment above. Avoid. Change mat is good enough..but hey, even junk mail makes a nice disposable change mat ;) My 2 favourite things are a small plastic bath (don't buy an insert..I did..used it twice ..facepalm) and a Jolly Jumper (freebie of course). Keeps her captive for a few mins (truly heavenly minutes) and she loves it. Worst purchase…the other half spent something like $300 on a fancy baby carrier. Ergo or something like that. Used it twice…now sits in her boot as a crap collector.

In summary, stuff will come, and come fast. don't look too hard for it.

Feel free to drop me a PM if any advice needed.

  • Appreciate all of the advice everyone! It can definitely be a daunting venture to begin this journey, so can't get enough help!
