I have heard that there is actually no such thing as "sashimi grade". Basically you're looking for a fish that has been frozen and thawed to kill any parasites.

$80kg salmon seems a bit hard to justify..

    • I think that is because they cut the fish for you.

      • I think you'd be hard pressed to compare std. salmon you buy from colesworth or your corner shop that is supposed to be cooked to something you can eat raw…

        • -1

No, that's just not true though. It's the same fish, only one you have convinced yourself is somehow able to be eaten raw.

        • Obviously you not much sashimi

  • In Australia and NZ (where Ora King Salmon comes from) we have good quality farmed fish so freezing the fillets is not required. Our Ora King Salmon sashimi is cut from fish that is air freighted to Australia twice a week and is always fresh. The reason sashimi is more expensive is partly due to the labour as BargainSeeker100 mentioned, and also due to the small percentage of the whole fish that can be used for sashimi which is about 40% or less. Hope this helps.

    • air freighted from where?

      • from the Ocean….XD… mostly $80 range are from NZ (claim to be)

How does the referral work? I click the referral links on ozbargain but no 20 dollar discount is applied to my cart.

How does the $20 vouchers work and Looks like the referral link is not working.
OP, Any idea when will the milkfish be available?

    • Hi @SabreTooth23,

Milkfish will be available mid-late next week. Please check back with us then. Thanks
Regarding the referral program a few people have asked so I'll post a separate message about this below.

I purchased the Pipis just before Christmas, don't recommend them.
They were very small and disappointing, not really like the photo at all. Didn't have much meat on them.
    Really not worth it.

    • Hi @Juiko,

We're sorry you didn't enjoy the pipis. They aren't the biggest or best available but for value at $8.50 a kilo I don't think you'll find better. The photo doesn't indicate the size, however in the listing it does state 40-60 pipis per kilogram.

We have larger sized fresh/live Australian pipis available but are priced higher.

    Hi OP,

Like other people have pointed out the referral link is not working….
How does the $20 vouchers work?

  • Hi @abetastic, @SabreTooth23, @homersyd,

Our referral program is separate to OzBargain and kicks in after you place an order. You'll receive an email with your unique referral link that you can give to friends and once they make a purchase you will receive a $20 voucher. We can combine multiple $20 vouchers for you. Please note referrals must be new customers from a different household and vouchers are valid for 30 days.

To be honest I'm not sure how the referral links on OzBargain work, but from what I've heard (and correct me if I'm wrong) people can upload their referral links and OzBargain will randomly select referrers so that the bonus is distributed evenly among the people who have uploaded their links. If someone could test or confirm this that would be great.
