Will Honda Accord 2008 2.4l Ivtech Need Memory Save While Changing Battery?

Its time to change my car battery and I could find good battery (better CCA and warranty) online for battery only. I figured out its not very difficult to change the battery while following some instructions. I searched in the internet and did not find any information on memory saver specific for my car (Honda Accord 2008 2.4L).
If I were to disconnect the battery without the memory saver, will it cause trouble to my car memory?

  • Nah.
It's convenient to have a temporary battery hooked up but not necessary.
The car won't brick itself if you take out the battery.

Usually only lose the radio stations and trip counts on a car of that age, so should be fine. If you have a factory stereo, make sure you know the lock code if there is one. If it's not already written in your manual, you can get this from your dealer, don't let them charge you.

Newer cars can lose a few more custom settings, but they just rock back to defaults.

    VTEC upgrade prevents memory loss

Did a battery change for a friend on same model. Only needed to reset the clock afterwards. Everything else remained as it was.

A memory saver is just a battery to provide the minimal current to volatile memory while you change the battery over. Almost any 12v battery will work if you have one available, a spare car battery and some jumper leads, or something from a toy, or probably even a trickle charger. It only needs to provide a few mA in the 10v - 15v range.

FWIW places like supercheap will change battery for you for about $15.. I signed up to their club ($5 maybe?) for a $15 credit and got them to change on the spot when I bought it.

Felt weird getting someone else to do a battery swap but was very convenient and basically free.

Definitely worth it if it's something like a Q7 where you need to take out the passenger seat to change the battery.

But tbh if you have a spanner it's something like 4 minutes worth of work.

If you ask supercheap auto to fit a century battery (from supercheap auto), they will give extra 6 months warranty.

  • Ensure it doesn't forget how to kick vtec in.

  • Thank you verymcuh for your expert advice. It looks like its safer to have have a memory saver. And it can be a simple 12V supply. The following question will be: will something like Projecta Interim Power Supply 9V - IPS130 from Repco work?
