How Long Is Officeworks ACL Return Period?

Hello.

Anyone able to tell me how long the Officeworks ACL warranty period would be?

10/5/2020 - Bought Razer Naga Trinity mouse ($132.50)

7/3/2021 - Side buttons (its a 12 button macro mouse) stopped working

7/3/2021 Went in store on and told them it wasn't working anymore, they placed a click and collect order for a new one

9/3/2021 - Received replacement picked up in store on (brand new replacement)

10/1/2022 - Same issue and mouse is again no longer working

Obviously the next step is to go in store and ask them - but I would like to be armed with the right info before I go in store.

I am mainly confused as to how the ACL period is determined. Like a $100 TV I would understand being covered for only a year since TVs are generally more expensive. But what about if its a $100 mouse, where mice are normally cheaper?

If its a write off its not the end of the world, Officeworks have done their part I guess and been pretty good to deal with.

Thanks!

ACL won't help with a mouse.

Officeworks might be accommodating so it's not surely a write-off.. Less questions asked if you get a refund and re-buy getting a new receipt.

    • Ah! That's were it gets interesting.

      I actually have 2 receipts.

      Original mouse: 10/5/2020

      Replacement mouse: 7/3/2021

That's such a good point. I should have asked for a refund and rebought it.
I didn't ask for a refund at the time because the re-buy price then was $199 (vs the price I bought it for was $132) so i chose a replacement as it would cost more to rebuy.

They still gave me a new receipt though due to not having any in stock and having to place a click and collect order.

MIght be able to argue that the warranty starts from 7/3/2021.

Either way, the manufacurers warranty is 2 years. If Officeworks won't replace it, check what Razer says.

          Well well well.

          They just refunded me.

So far I have had 2 stellar warranty experiences with officeworks.

          Thanks for the help.

    • Why do you think a mouse is excluded from the ACL?

      • The confusion was around the product price range and ACL periods.

For example, on the jb hi fi website, there is a graph with the column headings the timeframe and the row labels as the product price range … and the higher the value the longer the ACL period they cover is.

So rather, not it being a mice, but its price point and how long the ACL would cover it for.

ACL is not explicit, it is ‘reasonable’.
I personally think the replacement lasting less than 12 months is clearly unreasonable when my $3.75 mouse from BigW keeps trucking along.
But if OfficeWorks disagrees, you need to press your case - ultimately this could require court/NCAT/VCAT type claims, there isn’t a black and white rule they need to follow.

That said, I have had excellent service from Officeworks with products that failed, so I would start by turning up and seeing what they say.

I just don't get how razer products fail at the 7 or 8 month mark.

Normally if I buy a product and there isn't an immediate problem with it it stays useable for some time.

      Will do! Thanks.

Isn't razer products known to break easily?

        • Yea! Well I should have headed the warnings I read in reviews before I bought my first one….

Just didn't occur to me that products could end up failing so consistently after a few months use.

          Learnt the hard way.

The ACL is the same at every store. From my experience returning a 3 year old printer … the manager refused but I called the main officeworks phone and they refunded over the phone.

    • Interesting. Good to know it can be escalated.

      Theoretically, but not practically

  • I was going to suggest going through Razer Warranty, but it appears that Officeworks isn't an authorised Razer resellers?

My brother got his Razer Basilisk Ultimate (purchased through PCCG) replaced by Razer due to horrible battery life. They requested that he cut the cable & labels then document everything. The whole process took a few weeks though.

Yeah I noticed that too about Razer and authorized resellers.

Super happy with Officeworks service - on the spot refund.

They didn't even test the mouse either, just took my word for it.

And I was free to use the cash refunded to buy another mouse wherever I wanted

Beats waiting weeks for the manufacturer return to go through.
