Theragun Alternative Ideas

What are some Theragun alternatives the good forum of Ozbargain can suggest… my mate got a theragun for xmas and i tried it and it was really good… As much as I loved it… not sure I can justify $500-$900 for one…

And there are SOOOOOOO many alternatives so many different brands…. Any suggestions and user review would be nice.

  • Amazon and read reviews. While some will be fake, it's all anecdotal and subjective anyway. At least you can return it if you're not satisfied if you order from there.

  • I got the ALDOM branded one off Amazon for $100. I like it and reckon it's value for money. I use it in addition to foam rolling and stretching. Best value for money is a $30 foam roller (or $10 PVC pipe if you need harder).

Like most people I used the gun heaps at first and has since dropped off. It will never replace proper massage/physio but feels good while using it.
There's plenty of marketing out there but these aren't magic pills. No doubt the Theragun is better but $500+ is an awful lot to shell out.

i made a similar thread last year about this, not specifically Theragun, but was looking for a massage gun.

Xiaomi Massage Pro is still my recommended gun in regards to cost to function ratio. Also Replied to another deal a couple of weeks ago as well

Buy a jigsaw and get some attachments, as a bonus, you can use the jigsaw to cut things! (Probably best to wear earmuffs when using 😊)

    • I purchased this set of bits from ebay for $20 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185234910161 and a cordless jigsaw. They aren't actually loud.
Just make sure to get a jigsaw that allows speed-controls as some speeds suit better.
I actually used the jigsaw in so many ways for home use, too, like slicing up old cardboard from delivery boxes with a cardboard blade, or saving $800 by removing old carpet: With a suitable blade it cut through the carpet like butter to make disposal super easy. Even great for quickly cutting old material to fit into the bin etc.

I got a theragun about 2 years ago after debating whether I should spend the price for about 2 weeks. There was a deal on ozbargain and I really wanted it but couldn't justify the price, however, I decided to take the punt and go for it. I'm so glad I did and highly recommend it.

I was in the same boat as you, the difference though was I knew nobody with one, literally I was reading/watching sooo many reviews on YT, google etc. I'm glad you've tried it though, as it'll make it easier if you decide to end up purchasing it.

So one of my mates is a fitness freak, anyway he had one of those $100-150ish from eBay (similar design to the Hypervolt), anyway I tried it and it was soooo bad, I ended up letting him try my Theragun, and within 30 mins he had bought one. Since then, I've tried a few different massage guns, and nothing compares to the Theragun - infact my parents ended up getting one too after they used mine.

Each to their own, but personally, I think it's worth every penny. In saying that, I'm not sure how desperate you are for one, but WOD life do a theragun sale pretty much every year on black friday.

    • This is what makes the decision so hard, and good comparative and objective reviews seem impossible to find.

Those who have only tried the cheap ones, claim they're amazing.

Everyone who has tried the theragun and cheaper models seem to agree the theragun is much better.

Some cheap ones are actually rubbish, some of them are supposed to be fairly decent. None have the same on paper specs as a Theragun.

It seems the Theragun is undisputedly the best, but at they really that much better that they justify like 5x the price?

      • "It seems the Theragun is undisputedly the best, but at they really that much better that they justify like 5x the price?"

RRP wise - probably not, sale price (IMO) 100% yes. Again, I'm very happy with the purchase and I'm glad I bit the bullet. If you search on ozbargain for previous Theragun deals, you might get a better idea of when they could possibly go on sale.

Just as a side note - I have tried the Hypervolt (which is probably the closest massage gun comparison to Theragun) and I 100% prefer the Theragun.

        • Yeah the Pro model seems to be available for around $500 on sale - which would be roughly 5x the price of a supposed "decent" cheapo one.

Which Theragun model do you have?

I think I might just put a bit of money aside here and there and wait for another to pop up on sale.

          • @Harold Halfprice: So I just checked my emails and I bought the TheraGun G3 - BLACK for $443 from WOD life. I think they have a few more models now - but back then from what I recall they had 3 models - and the one I got was the mid tier.

EDIT: Just googled and found it for $359 from Kogan.
