Finally 'had it' with my old non HDMI amplifier and hacking my Home theater PC to get true surround. went to JB determined to purchase a sherwood amp @$239 but ended up with this, much better spec, looks much nicer and around 80-100 bux cheaper than anywhere else for a 220V model (110v models Are cheaper, but factor in voltage convertors and shipping for 11Kg)
sounds great, has 4 HDMI inputs, on screen setup and a microphone included to calibrate the sound to your room / speakers
Drive around long enough and a few guys in a white van should be able to sell you some.

Budget 5.1 speaker set up for $200 that are good? Might be a bit tricky… save up more cash and buy something decent. Speakers are where you can spend a few extra bucks on because if you get something decent once you'll be set for a long long time.

Yes you can. Mine came with an aerial but it only seems to be AM no FM channels made any sound for me..
You need an aerial for FM. I use a TV aerial lead.
yep, am, FM radio, no airplay or ethernet though, pay more for a higher model
If you want AirPlay buy a cheap second hand apple tv 2 from eBay
Bought one during the xmas sale and still enjoying it everyday :) (I hook it up to my PC via optical cable and now I got my bluray rom may try HDMI as well)
I picked one of these up last weekend. They are great for the price however all the presets are unusable.
For some reason the techs who made them decided to put as much reverb as possible on the voice channel… Not sure what they were thinking
sure you're speakers are in phase?
yeh it's not a phase problem it's heaps of reverb (i'm a music producer)

hmmm sounds like a good price. but isn't it a bit older model? I seen Harvey Norman tried to unload this a while ago for around $350 including a set of speakers & sub. I ended up buying the vsx300 from Dick Smith for $350 including the speakers.
A quick FYi on this, ARC works superbly! (with my Samsung UA55c7000)
The tv sends its audio back up the hdmi cable to the amp!
Or in other words…
When the amp is on, te sound comes through the amp
And the tv remote controls the volume on the amp.
Switch the amp off, sound comes from the TV!
does it have 2 speaker zones?
Anyone know if this model does HDMI upscaling? About the only feature I really miss from my current amp (VX-371 IIRC)

how does this comapre to the HTP-521? I think its a VSX-521 + a 5.1 speaker setup for $379 on JB's site as well?

I'm not sure how you did that, two years ago would have been the 519 AFAIK??? I got my 520 less than one year ago & it was current then…no sign of the 521 even at that point!
