Should I Return New Laptop to Purchase Used from Facebook Marketplace?

I currently have the Lenovo Yoga 7i 16GB model which I bought new for $1400 but recently found a Lenovo Yoga 7i 8GB model for $800 on Facebook market. He seems well kept and still has receipt. From what I can see, both models have the same amount of storage (512GB), only difference is inferior RAM and CPU, is this downgrade worth the $600?

Note, I don’t play games and really only use my laptop for movies and reading. I will also be connecting it to my Dell u3818dw, just not sure if 8GB ram is enough….thoughts?

    But are you going to be able to sell it for $1400?

      Hypothetically if I could return it for $1400 which I kinda doubt but mainly just wondering if the downgrade is worth saving $600 and the risk of used laptop.

      I’ve so far had good experience with used electronics since I’ve mainly bought from people living near the city, though you can never be too careful

        JB Hi-Fi definitely won’t accept your laptop because you changed your mind.

          I know but hypothetically…

          Anyways I made up mind that 16GB RAM is too valuable to give up especially for future proofing since this laptop will probably be my main rig for awhile

            @Danneo: There is no hypothetical. They won’t accept it simply because you changed your mind.

              @kerfuffle: There is… hypothetically the machine came with a defect… hypothetically ofc

              • @Danneo: And hypothetically, we're wasting our time giving advice to you as we're dealing with an idiot.

                Hypothetically … Just give up on your hypothetical. You're only embarassing yourself.

            @Danneo: hypothetically I'm rich… hypothetically of course

          • @Danneo:

          If they do, and OP paid using discounted gift cards, the refund is getting paid to gift card or store credit.

          @Danneo how'd you pay?

      Sorry to jump the queue here but you cannot upgrade the RAM on the FB one as the RAM is soldered to the motherboard (BGA)!. The 8GB will be a slouch and you will regret it. Stick with the new and enjoy!! Cheers

  • Seems like a big risk. Who knows what's wrong with the second hand one.

    • Definitely that factor aswell

    You use your laptop for reading and watching movies.

    Get a cheaper laptop. Why did you go some expensive to begin with.

    If you aren't on the road cheap laptops are fine as you aren't gonna put a lot of stress on them. Lenovo lower consumer series with plastic etc

    • My ‘reading’ is kinda complicated… since I’m learning Japanese I use a bunch of softwares and Google addons fo help aid my reading which kinda takes a toll the device. So there a lot of multitasking that I do that I’m not sure a lower end device can handle in the long run, especially since I needed 2in1. Tho the most consuming program is probably chrome I think since I like to have a lot of tabs opening for research. Main thing of concern is definitely 8GB RAM

        Switch to a more resource efficient browser like Firefox and it solves half your problem.

        • Even Edge Chromium had better resource management over Chrome.

    By the time you dick around returning it etc, the other will be sold.

    After you get that second hand following week you see another post and regretting again.. repeat 3x..

  • Stop looking at another laptop. You got one already.

    Laptops are like cell phones, you think you got a great deal only to find the next week that a better deal is available.

    Dig in what you paid and enjoy your laptop.

    • Im still salty about acer nitro 5 deals lol

      • I was before, got a Nitro 5 for $1280 with a 1650ti mobile back in December 2020, one year later the prices are cheaper with better CPU's and GPU's

        That happens with some technology.

  • Yes. Add poll.

  • Ask the guy on Facebook if he would swap with yours.

  • Stick with the new. You cannot upgrade the RAM as it is BGA soldered. Sorted!
