    Price is no issue

    SnapOn.

Now, seriously. What do you need? What kind of work? No use suggesting a 1/4” drive kit if you are taking wheels off trucks. No use suggesting SnapOn if you are just doing your own oil changes at home once every 12 months.

I work on cars all day and I just use a Tool Pro socket set from Supercheap. Does the job, good quality, works well.

For screwdrivers, I use a Wiha 26 in 1 for almost everything. If it was legal to marry a screwdriver, she would be my wife. My mistress would be my SnapOn ratcheting screwdriver. Almost as old as me, gets treated like crap and still works like the day I bought it. I have a Worx electric driver and it has literally changed my life. For everything else the other two won’t do, the Worx does it for me.

As for standard drivers, just a plain set of Stanley works for me. They stay sharp and never had one fail and I treat them like garbage.

    • Does the Worx 4V work on Hex Bolts too? If so I’m getting 26-1 and Worx

      • The Worx has a standard 1/4 hex drive receiver, so it will drive any standard bit you can put in it. I have a 1/4” square drive adaptor so I can use it with sockets and I have a 5/16” hex driver adaptor as well for using it on sheet metal screws.

The only thing I dont like about the Wiha is that while it has the 1/4 hex drive, you basically have to use their double ended bits in it. Downside is if you lose a bit, you can’t just grab another one from anywhere, upside is, as badly as I treat mine, I have never damaged a tip or worn a tip out or had to try and replace it.

        • Where can I buy a set of hex socket from? I need whole set of them in ‘mm’ or inches.

        • Can you recommend me a premium ‘hex socket set’ please? Thanks 😊

        • DEWALT Impact Socket Set, 23-Piece, 3/8" Drive Metric/SAE (DWMT74738) https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01IFSX8AC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_g…

          Is this any good?

Is 3/8 and 1/4 doing the same job? Should I actually buy 1/4 sets to match the worx?

Any major different of hex socket size etc?

        • Actually I need metric 6 - 13

@Kawaii: You seem kind of confused about what tools you actually need, what job is it that calls for “premium” tools?

            • @mapax: I just prefer better quality

              • @Kawaii: You sound like a Milwaukee tools kind of fella, they’ll have everything you're after.

    • SnapOn.

      Nah, got to be Stahlwille.

Tools are an investment if you don't buy cheap junk but really pegaxs nailed it. You don't need premium everything Most of my sockets are old Kincrome and they work just fine, Spanners I have a mix of Kincrome and Gearwrench and maybe some really old Sidchrome, pliers and multigrip style things are Knipex and screwdrivers and similar are either Wiha or Wera.

  • Just about all decent ones have lifetime warranties now.

Make sure the sockets are 6 sided instead of 12 pointed this way you are less likely to round the bolt off. For a socket set if you want something, fancy and will last a lifetime (if it doesn't get stolen or missing) German-made Stahlwille is excellent but incredibly expensive they use a special kind of alloy tool steel also look at Hazet. Japanese made Nepros and Koken, Koken being cheaper than Nepros is also another excellent choice bit difficult to find locally.

Screwdrivers, Look at PB Swiss the quality of the steel is first-rate and the tips are very durable. Instead of Snap-On could you get Williams made in USA Screwdriver set off Amazon. Other than that, Wiha German-made screwdrivers are also good just make sure that the screwdrivers are made in Germany, not Vietnam.

*Check Garage Journal there are plenty of pages discussing which Sockets set/ Screwdriver sets are good and which are bad.

  • Sidchrome socket set and Irwin does alright for screws

    • Unless you can get old stuff (pre 90s) at a garage sale etc, Sidchrome is overpriced for it's quality now. They're no better than Kincrome (though their prices are borderline too much these days as well) or ToolPro at SCA yet they're still charging a premium.
