Citizen Eco-Drive AW5000-24E Black Solar Powered Watch $149 Delivered @ Starbuy

690

If I didn't have a Seiko 5 (or I could go back in time), I would have bought this watch. The major advantage is the military styling, with a clean "no shit" watch face with nice clear numbering, the fact that it has the badass Citizen Eco-drive - claims to charge itself under indoor lighting or can keep going for 6 months from full charge! Unlike the Automatic watch you don't need to wear it every day to keep it running, the fact that it can sit on your desk/bedside and happily charge itself is pretty amazing.

Amazon price is $229 for reference.

"The epitome of casual comfort, the performance offered by this watch from the Dress Collection is anything but laidback. Using Eco-Drive Technology, power is derived from any light source so cumbersome batteries are never needed, and with accuracy to within 15 seconds per month, its performance is as sharp as its looks. Constructed from stainless steel with WR100, date display and low charge indicator, this watch is equipped for action."

Not a bad looking field watch

  • I hope Citizen release some Sub 40mm Eco-Drive watches for 2022. Nearly every watch in the Eco-Drive lineup is either 41mm or above.

    • As a man with a 6.5 inch wrist, I know how you feel. Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't a Japanese brand cater to better case sizes?

As experience would go, keep dreaming.

shouldn't a Japanese brand cater to better case sizes

        Laughs in Seikos..

Seriously though, brands seems to be (hopefully) coming around toward more sensible case sizes with the new releases (e.g. new 39mm Speedtimers), so hang on tight!

        • Just had a look at the pricing for the Speedtimers certainly not cheap, the price varies from $779 up to $1050.

          • @UnknownUser74: Newly released (Nov 2021 I believe), quite popular and limited stocks (especially the white and tan dials) so little reasons for deep discounts. Once stocks stabilize in 6-12 months prices should settle, similar to what happened with the Casioaks.

      • You have seen the GShock range, haven't you?

Japanese LoVe Big watches on small wrists ATM.

Though Seiko are starting to make a niche range of 39mm thereabouts homage style watches

    • This one is 39, might meet your requirements :)

lol, there is plenty of those. just look under ladies watches, for lady sized wrist.

I have two Eco Drives. The older is 28mm square and the slightly newer is about 32mm square. Both have gold bands. Just the right size for me. They don't make 'em like they used to.

    • My next watch will be a Nordgreen in something 38-40mm.

I have had my Citizen eco-drive for around 26+ years and it is still going strong. I have only changed the leather strap 2 times. I wear it less often these days due to having a phone in my pocket, but as noted by OP, it just charges it self when I leave it on the bench etc

You can have more than one watch OP.

I can and do, but I don't see a point in having watches of similar design (my Seiko 5 809snk is black with almost the same face design).

I have had two Citizen field style eco drive watches for over 5 years and absolutely love them. Yep, does stay charged in indoor light but occasionally the battery does run low. Tempted to buy another have too many already.

  • Oh dear…Now i'm wanting to trade in my SNZG15J1 for it :(

    • And I thought my 809 SNK was similar, this is almost a copy but automatic O_o

Sadly the resell value on the majority of watches is meh.

I think they've stopped making them, but you'd really like the citizen AW1410. It has crown guards, screw down crown, 200m and eco drive. It was also a bit cheaper for me ($124). I bought it on a past starbuy (or creation?) deal - thankyou WatchNerd 😊. I consider it a military style watch.

    • Yes the Citizen AW1410 is a nice watch for the money.

  • I've owned a Titanium Eco-Drive Chronograph for over 20 years and love it as much now as i did when i first spotted it in a Northampton jewellers window.
Sadly my eyes are too tired to read the date now, so after much deliberation, i opted for this lovely thing: https://www.casio.com/sg/watches/protrek/product.PRW-50Y-1B/
    Never looked back. :)
