PC Is 2014. What's The Best AMD (Onboard Graphics) Mini-ITX MB/CPU Worth Looking at?

I've been holding off on building new as I figured I could eke things out a bit longer by waiting. The new scare with urea has me thinking I ought to not wait in case supply chain is utterly ruined.

I don't game much, so the AMD discrete will be fine until/if a dedicated card shows up. I do use VM's in my work.

I'm frugal, but willing to upgrade items if it makes sense to do so. Don't need water-cooling, prefer USB-C in front (either a new case or a breakout box in my existing Prodigy case). I listen to a lot of music so something better than 2 ch. is appreciated.

Happy to bundle for a savings, if it's actually a savings. I'm south of Perth, which means AU Post will ship on Monday and deliver the following Friday by dumping it outside (in the rain- weather permitting). Still, better than driving to Perth and all that entails!

Looking forward to your thoughts and rec's!

Ta and thanks so much,

G

Everything is more expensive when you do ITX and if you want a "real graphics card" down the line, your ITX case isn't really gonna be that much smaller than a small mATX case.

Jump on Youtube and search out benchmarks of CPU's you are looking at.

One thing though, on the CPU side of a Ryzen CPU with integrated graphics, it won't perform as well as the not graphics versions.

Ryzen CPUs with Integrated graphics only support up to PCIE 3.0 so no real point get 550 or 570 motherboard.

  • Search for AMD CPU's in perth and go from there as what is best and what you can get are different questions.

For what is best head on to toms hardware guide and read the reviews on the CPU's you can find that are available in perth.

The CPU would be a 5600G or similar, your mainboard options are something like these:

  • If you really want something small and cheap what about something like Dell Optiplex?

  • More info:

Current mobo (built 2014): ASRock H97M-ITX/ac, CPU: i5-4690, RAM: KHX1600C10D3/8G x 2 (16GB DDR3). I have the BitFenix Prodigy case (which I like, and supports vcards up to 335 mm). No usb-C, but could maybe add a hub from a rear USB-C port?).

I have 2 new NVMe/SATA drives (Samsung 970 500GB, CRUCIAL MX500 1TB) which have been sitting in their boxes for some time due to my health issues.

I'm interested in the 5600G suggested by Luklan, as at least I can upgrade w/decent graphics waiting to see what happens later re: GPU's pricing/availability.

Anyone here at OZB built a recent Mini-ITX w/the AMD G series CPU/GPU?
