Ceramic coat and window tint in Melbourne?

Hi guys,

New car and I decided to tint the windows and get a ceramic coat for the first time. I've had a few quotes, but they are coming in the $1500-1700 range. Is that normal pricing? The window tinting is coming in at about $600 and the ceramic coating is running about $1200, which is way over what I thought it would cost (I assumed about $500). Does anyone have any recommendations or better pricing?

  • I believe that is quite normal from the numerous quotes I got from reputable businesses. I used tintacar for the coat on my new car. $900 ceramic coating + $300-$600 depending on what tint you want. I believe they operate in Melbourne too.

    (I assumed about $500).

Didnt think to get quotes first?

Before I got the car? No. Why would I? But I got some quotes this week as mentioned above.

  • I would suggest against cheaping out on the ceramic coating. The actual application of the coating is relatively quick, however the preparation and paint correction is a tedious process and is more responsible for the durability, performance and appearance of the ceramic coating.

Don't waste your money on snake oil 'ceramic' coating. Regular clean and wax when needed is more than fine

I would worry about buying a car where I felt the need to add anything more than done by the factory.

Frankly, I would reckon that not fit for purpose if you need extra protection and have to pay for it.

Op, I assume that it's a cheap car?

      • I get the philosophy but independent comparisons have shown ceramic coating to he really effective.

Depends on your definition of cheap, it's not a G63, it's a Tesla.

Depends on the level of coating. I got the top tier Opticoat and wheel coating plus tinting for under $1400 3 years ago for a car that sent to them only 2 days after delivery.

  • A bit expensive quote you've received.

Check on Facebook for a reputable car tinter.

IMO, ceramic coat is a waste of money. Wax and chuck sealant on it regularly.

If you really care for your car, get paint protection film on it. It will guarantee protection against chips, dents and scratches. See this as an example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND4vE9vmQWE
