Recommendations on Furniture for New Apartment

Hi everyone,

I'm in the market to kit out a new apartment with pretty much everything except for washing machine and coffee table.

Can anyone please suggest a way to have second hand furniture delivered? (I got an amazing huge coffee table for $70 a few years ago from a Lifeline but we had a trailer for it).

Otherwise, what are some good recommendations for cheap, quality furniture and electronic/whitegoods? I think I'll get quite a few things from Kogan, but wanting to know if there are other options.

Thanks
Jason

You can rent a trailer from bunnings for a few hours or a day. Or I think you can even get free rental with some purchases.

IKEA has good stuff. My couch is great.

    • I’m not the OP - also on the market for a new couch. Which IKEA couch do you have? I had a look the other day and liked so many. Knowing which you have may help narrow it down.

I have the Vilme 3 seater. Got it in late 2017. Absolutely love it. Long enough for me to lay down completely. I even have guests use it as the primary “spare bed”. They always say it’s very comfortable, though noting no one has stayed longer than 5 nights.

It was one of the more expensive ones but it’s held up for 4 years now so definitely worth it.

Thanks, that’s one of the ones I liked! Glad to hear about your positive experience. Thank you again.

@ectogammat: No worries! The Vimle is a good one, so if it was in your shortlist you should go for it!

    Mistake #1 Don't do it!
You've been here long enough to know this is a bad idea.

If you are on a budget then IKEA, FB, Gumtree, Outlet stores of reputed appliance brands and scratch and dent stock would be the way to go. If you are going second hand just find items you'd like on FB and Gumtree and pay a small holding deposit and collect all of them in one go with a trailer hired for the day from Bunnings, Coates or Kennards

    • What are your experiences with Kogan? I've bought multiple things from them and everything has been great. My airfryer did get a crack in the plastic of the door, but I've had it for 2-3 years and it's operating on top of the microwave so can't blame them for the crack.

I'm sure the vast majority here will beg to differ. The fun starts when things stop working. It's your money so I'm not here to stop you but if you enjoy going without the (insert Kogan appliance name) for weeks while you waste time recording evidence videos/photos and play email ping pong with Kogan support then be my guest.

  • Look at the power consumption on Kogan's electrical items TV's Fridges etc are a lot higher than LG and other better brands. That kind of creates a false economy where you lose it in future power bills.
I wouldn't recommend buying a sofa couch from Super Amart.

After years with marketplace/gumtree/vergeside collection furniture i decided to go the new route.
Went with Nick Scali for a sofa - incredible sofas, pity about the wait time and never really go on sale.

Would stay away from IKEA if you want something you would rather not feel like updating in a couple of years time.
As for Kogan, i think Ozbargain speaks for itself.

Get whitegoods off Jbhifi/harvey's B&M stores, yes it hurts but the warranty is worth it.
