Laptop Recommendation for General Use - Budget $1000

I am looking for a laptop for general use - web browsing, watching movies, and a bit of old games (20 year old plus - Warcraft 2, Diablo 1, Heroes of might and magic 3 …)

A quick search here and I saw those

Acer Aspire 5 15.6-inch i7-1165G7/16GB/512GB SSD $998

HP 15.6-inch R7-5700U/16GB/512GB SSD $998

Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop (currently 40% off - Dell online store) 11th Generation Intel® Core i7-11390H/16GB/512GB SSD $1,227.50
if I un-tick the "1Y Premium Support and Onsite Service +$97.48" do I really need this?

What would be your preference or any other recommendation?

Search all forum posts for happy HN customers if you can find any.
Makes Dell direct good value for money. Web browsing usually requires nothing over the i5 but get the latest version. Most important: Pick a screen to please your eyes.

  • Perhaps a pre-owned Dell Latitude. You can normally find some on Gumtree for less than $1000. And the build quality and performance are quite good. I have brought latitudes in the past and never had any issues with them. My understanding is that the Latitude series is more business orientated but it still should do the job.

  • Thanks all,

I do not like HN much myself.

Never thought of Latitude before, after a bit of reading …
"That said, the Inspiron series isn’t as durable and solid as the Latitude series." … that seems important to us (I take quite good care of our computing device, but not wife and kids)

    Cheers
