    "Mountain Bike"?

    • Knobby tires = MTB

    • +2

Not road legal so have to call it mountain bike I guess

    • Will it survive your first jump?

  • A note for the more compact version: GT-5 is hard to ride as it lacks a transmission.

hmm mechanical discs not hydraulic ….

Isn't the throttle mode illegal in AUS or at least in NSW?

    • I don't know about NSW, but I think these are the rules in QLD:

      • Pedelecs (require pedalling for motor to activate) are legal if 250W or less motor rating at the supplied voltage;
      • Throttle-mode if 200W or less motor rating at the supplied voltage.

So throttle mode is legal if your e-bike is within the power limit.

Not quite, throttles on ebikes in Queensland are also speed limited to 6km/h

        • I've just looked up the laws, and my description above was lacking.

You are right, but when pedalling:

The motor must cut out (stop operating) when a speed of 25km/h is reached.

          From: https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/safety/rules/wheeled-device…

See the "Motorised bicycles" section near the end. There is also a link to "personal mobility devices", which includes throttle-only scooters, they also have a 25kph maximum speed requirement.

The 6kph limit is the maximum speed a pedelec may achieve without pedaling. So you are correct, but your comment, in isolation, makes e-bikes sound much slower than they actually are.

I personally think it's stupid that the law makes such a wide distinction between scooters and e-bikes. Although it's irrelevant for the bike in this deal, it's way above the power limits, so definitely illegal on public land in QLD.

Edit: I've just re-read the "personal mobility devices" page, and I can't see any power limitations on that page. It's weird, I'm sure it used to say 200W maximum power.

          • @Russ: I mean, I did say throttles, but you are correct.

    • Its legal, as long as its also pedalec and has a max speed of 25km/h

    junk - don't buy imo

Several youtube video reviews indicate it is a decent product and good value.

When the 'on special' US prices are converted to AUD, this Aussie price is comparable.

Why do you believe it to be junk?

    • Alloy frame, no indication on what type of alloy. My guess aluminium. Its ok at first, but whether the frame and welds will last is anyones guess.

  • Do we get to choose the colour? Also, are the bike fenders plastic or aluminum? PC Market seem to be closed until 10th January.

  • Bike fenders are metal. It seems earlier production was plastic. Info gained through youtube reviews.

  • Was about to pull the trigger on this but looks like PC Market have horrible reviews and customer service
Rather pay extra than deal with that
