Ordered KFC - Got All Drumsticks

Ordered a shared meal for lunch today via the app that included 8 pieces of chicken. Arrived around 12:00PM just before the start of the lunch rush, no queue when I arrived but the queue was getting long as I left. Didn't open it up in-store to check if the order was correct (does anyone ever do that?), took it home and saw that all 8 pieces of chicken were drumsticks!

My guess is the majority of people out there would, like myself, prefer a variety of different pieces of light/dark meat. Am keen to see what the reaction would be out there if this had happened to you.

    everytime ..

it seems most kids at local KFC's only have 7 fingers cause the order is nearly always short…
same as McD's - specially with nugget packs

That would be an absolute win for me.
    love a good drumstick!

At the other end of the scale though…
Always upset to see a small boney wing with no meat in a box from kfry.

Edit: Also, I always open the box from KFC and check, i feel like kfc has the most consistent fail rate for getting orders correct of any fast food chain.

My son would be in heaven if he got all drumsticks.
Yes, always need to double check before driving away from the kfc.

Could be worse, I'd take that over 8 mini wings

  • Drumsticks are ok. I’d prefer thighs tbh.

  • yeah try order 8 pieces or something and they will always sneaked in couple that are small. like 6 tights and then suddenly you see 2 small drumsticks/wings

i think that is the policy. mixed some cheap stuffs when people order

Can i ask for no wings?

    • Yep. I ask for it all the time

  • Sounds like a humble brag…

They are supposed to mix the pieces up, so that may be one that they would refund. Slight chance someone ordered all drumsticks at the same time….

  • When I ask for no wings and drumsticks they say "we can't do that" but the person before me could ask for only drumsticks and wings with no problems. But annoying that every 9 for 9.95 box I get is 2 big pieces and 7 puny sticks and wings.

Best thing about drumsticks(besides eating that yummy goodness) is keeping the bones and freezing them to later use as stock bones. For that finger licking good chicken soup you can make.
Don’t even need know the secret ingredients for the soup. Already baked in.

  • I can't vote on this one as it would be situational for me.

If it was an order for just me, I'd think I'd have scored big time. I personally prefer eating drumsticks as there's generally more meat and you don't have to deal with trying to get that little bit of meat out between two bones.

If it was an order mainly for my wife (I normally go for a hacked Zinger Crunch combo for $8.75), she'd send me back to the store… she only likes wings… don't ask me why but it's her preference and I respect that.

On average I'd be swaying towards this being a negative I guess.

  • 8 of the same is a bit rough.
I do love a drumstick but 8 of them in a variety pack is a different story. I’d be very happy with a mixture of thighs and drumsticks 🍗

I am quite sure they have a set combination of types of pieces for each meal and highly doubt your meal was meant to be all drumsticks. I would call up and let the store know. They should give you a replacement meal.

Personally I hate the drumsticks so that would make me frustrated.

  • Most likely they were out of cooked chicken and some idiot of an employee thought they would get away with ripping you off. If you ring the store with the time of your order they give you a full replacement order by way of a voucher by email no questions asked. Such is the failure rate by KFC employees at being able to do their job right. In future tell them at ordering that you don't want all small pieces and the chances are in your favour of a decent mix of pieces - but of course this will still fail but not as often.

NB By asking for bigger pieces you increase the chances of some other sucker being short changed like you were but that's not your problem.

  • Not sure if there's a "minimum drumsticks" option but when I get a shared KFC meal I tell them, "minimal wings please". This way you get all larger pieces of chicken. I learned of this after getting a lot of wings one time.

  • I rate each order on the number of drumsticks received, more the better.

  • Ex KFC manager here.
There are 9 pieces of chicken in a whole chicken.
For an eight piece pack, you should have received 2 x legs, 2 x wings, 1 or 2 thighs, 1 or 2 ribs and 0 or 1 breast pieces.
Ring up the store and make a complaint.

You may have gotten someone else's order who specified all drumsticks.

    • Yes the combinations are set but the staff training is the problem so they stick to the combinations. The bigger the number of pieces you order the higher chance you will get the left over small pieces. It’s almost as if they use large orders to make up for the orders that request bigger pieces. Tell that to a family gathering who sit down and try and divide up a 21 piece order that has so many small pieces, no breasts and pathetically sized other pieces Which leads on to the problem of the size of the chickens they source these days. It’s almost as if they get day old chickens sometimes. Breasts smaller than wings, thighs that look like wings. Undersized pieces should be sent back to the supplier. Some stores seem to be worse than others for this. How does that work? I was a manager in the 80’s and would have fired staff for all this sort of sloppiness but in those days the staff weren’t all high school kids on youth rates so it wasn’t a problem as much as they were better trained and needed the money to pay the rent.

      • I know that in WA some stores get Inghams while others get Steggles. All stores used to be Inghams until the drivers went on strike. That could be why some stores get better sized chickens than others.

        • I can see that could be an issue but in the same city? It’s poor quality control. Or they just don’t care OR it’s a deliberate rip off the ACCC should investigate.

Better than getting an 8 piece share pack and getting 5 wings and 3 drumsticks.
Wings should not be considered an piece of chicken on the same value level as a drum, thigh or breast/rib portion.
