Was trying to find these at Bunnings for $17.88 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/665597) but they were sold out at my local. Thought I'd check what they were priced at Amazon and only $19.00. Camelcamelcamel says it's been this price since mid November.

Looks like its $17.88 at a bunch of other places like JB Hi-fi and Officeworks. If you're a prime member than you may not mind paying the extra $1.12 to get it delivered.

  • I also got mine price matched at JB for $17.88

  • Great price

  • Wish the next google mini comes with usb c port

    • Hasn't Google ditched the mini?

  • Big W has the same price

  • It's a bit like buying Coke… The special almost seems ongoing lately!
I've now got one in each of the kid's rooms. Although the first couple I bought earlier in the year were white. And one of them was the $10 deal.

The special is ongoing because you pay with your personal information

  • Sounds like it's cheaper everywhere except Amazon, unless you need shipping for $1.12?

  • These are great, small and simple, don't use much data and sound fine for the average person. I would buy the clock version (echo show 5) for the bedroom if you need a clock as they are around $59 and can play back YouTube and show cameras (on door bell or security) or video chat with friends/family. Amazon is not quite as smart as Google when asking questions but still ok.

I've noticed though, the mics in these pick up voice A LOT BETTER than the Echo Show 5's.

These are great for having random FBI listeners in different parts of the house when you want to ask questions or turn on things/set timers etc.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I think of it as my own special agent on 24 hour guard duty.

All hail [insert current US president here] our great and glorious saviour and protector.

        • All hail Nancy Pelosi's stocks!

    • may be not as smart but more responsive than google home. now I use more of Alexa

      • 100%

Google has the better product overall, but the responsiveness of the echo dots is way better. Also 'Alexa' is nicer to say than hey/OK google

  • Also available on ebay for $19 delivered, good for using up gift cards and stacking promo codes.

  • Amazon delivery for this is coming up as late March for the one I ordered. That doesn't worry me as I've no use for it just yet but might not be great for others with less patience.

  • Delivery should be free for people without Prime as well.

When you get to checkout it takes it off and ends up at $19.

That being said estimated delivery is: Mar 22, 2022 - Mar 28, 2022

  • Can’t wait from Amazon, just ordered one from Officeworks, pick up in 2hours.

  • If I have a Fire TV Stick 4k Max, is there any point in getting one of these for the same room?
Does it do anything the fire stick doesn't?
(I should probably add that I haven't yet got the Fire Stick set up, so not too sure what that does anyway).

    • In the most basic scenario, the fire stick tv needs a tv to work. The echo dot is a stand alone smart speaker that works without a tv.

They both provide similar smart home capability via Alexa AI and Skills using your voice commands (need to press the voice commmand on the fire tv remote first).

You can sync the echo dot to the firestick to use it as your tv speaker if the standard one isn’t great. I do this on my old tv. Some people sync up two echos for more surround sound effect. They are small but can be quite loud.

I love them both and each serve different use cases but compliment each other.

      • Thanks for the reply. Reckon I'll give one a go if I can find one in stock.

It’s got a cool “drop in” feature, which is basically an intercom functionality where you can chat through the speaker either through another echo, or via the Alexa phone app. I use this to talk to my family when I’m not home and they don’t answer their phone. There’s an audible announcement to let you know when someone drops in and out. I can chat to my partner when they are outside doing some gardening and don’t hear their phone. It’s so cheap I don’t mind keeping one outside under the patio.

  • The South Park take on Alexa is hilarious.
