I’ve used catch, Aldi, Kogan, boost, woolies, Optus direct all in the same iP+7 and amaysim calls are barely possible… shit quality, other person can’t hear me… coincidence or any recommendations to tweak ?

    • That's super weird imo, particularly if you've had no issues with Optus. Not denying your experience, just a bit miffed as I can't think of how and why that would happen.

  • Amaysim activates the sim before sending and you would need to call them to get the full 28 days

    • When u actually insert the SIM they reset the plan start date. At least they did for me.

      • not all the time. once it was automatic all other times, I have to cal

      • wouldn't you need to verify the port out with your current telco before it can activate?

        • If you just buying with a provided number, the automatic activation happens

          • @skinny: so it skips the text message from your provider asking you to enter a code to confirm the port out?

    • it's a starter kit, so they can't.

  • So can anyone confirm that even the bonus data rolls over or only the base 30GB?

    Thanks.

I genuinely cannot understand why someone for their main mobile number would pay $10 for a starter kit for a month, when every 4 months or so boost does ~ $160 for 12 months of service (ie $13.33 per month, with no faffing about porting).
    Unless :
    * Optus is the best reception where you live
    * it's a throwaway number (for freebies / promos / gumtree / etc)
    * it's your port out/stepping stone service when moving between two longer prepaid services
    * you have international visitors who are coming for less than 28 days.
    * it's a backup service in a dual sim phone (in fact I have an Amaysim prepaid 6 month for $6.98 total sim as my backup service in my dual sim phone right now, and it's handy to be able to use that when my main Telstra-network service has zero bars of reception).

Don't get me wrong, for 4 years I used to port my main number every month between prepaid services, but only when the price of the kits was $5 or less for 28 days service. But I'm convinced now that the best value is in the yearly or multi-month plans, particularly when you properly value your time for ports that go wrong (and about 5% of the time, they do, and it takes days to fix + hours on the phone speaking to tech support + making tio complaints). The time & hassle of things going wrong vastly outweighs $3 or $4 a month, IMHO.

    • For the main number its not worth the hassle, but I use these new sim deals for my home internet/mobile data & it works out great. Just activate a new number every month then chuck it.

      • I do the same, but Kogan starter kits were 40gb date was $4.95, now it's 20gbbdate for $2.95.

Kogan, Amaysim, Catch etc, all dont have unlimited data for the month or 28 days.

I tend to go through a clue of these a month, at least. Heaps faster than Telstra at home, but unfortunately, don't work far from town if not on Telstra network.

Tempted to get this, for the 70gb, for $10.

Could've written this myself, this is exactly my situation, did sim hopping but have since stopped. The dual sim usage you describe, particularly for backup and extra data (often cheaper than data add-ons) is my primary reason for using it.

  • 40gb bonus data on 'first renewal' indicates that's it's the second month, when you 'renew' the plan.

Now Kogan 40gb for $4.95 have dropped their starter kits to 20gb for $2.95, I am looking for a cheap way to have a bit of data at home, when I'm at home, and generally just use these type of deals to get a bit of internet thats not my main phone.
I don't use enough to warrant a fixed plan/broadband/home internet service

  • that's what they regularly cost at coles/woolies

  • "First month 70GB data (was 30GB)"
"40GB bonus data for the first renewal"

So is the 40GB bonus data on activation or after the first renewal?
