Toshiba Z770K UHD Full Array 120Hz TV 55 Inch $1199, 65 Inch $1599 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ The Good Guys

110

Probably some other rebranded Hisense model. Not many in-depth reviews on this, but the shorter, less technical reviews seem good. If someone can figure which model it's rebrand of that might help

Either way, a FALD TV with 4k 120hz at this price range is an extremely good deal. Compared to the TCL one, this one does 120hz while the TCL doesn't.

Well it's got everything specs wise but can it deliver a good picture quality and good at dark scenes 🤔 I see it has big speakers too toshiba is great brand at least it used to be when it was Japanese owned.

Toshiba was great 30 years ago. But today? Just a licensed name.

      • Agreed … we have their laptops for work (Dynabooks) and they are rubbish.
I believe that Sharp purchased Toshiba a few years back.
Sad when Dell make better quality; their laptops feel cheap - plastic/flex, limited ports, slow, bad/poor quality connectors i.e. everytime you plug in the USB-C power it feels like its going to break.
Would be concerned about who actually makes these and after-market support.

    • Watching The Expanse I find dark scenes look very good in my eyes anyway
I did find any local dimming low/med/high gives a bit much bloom however so I turn that off when watching shows like The Expanse.
However, I prefer them set to low with most content and PC / Console games.

  • hmm, anyone know what the pixel response time is? also can it do 1440p @ 120hz?

    • As per the manual it only does 120hz at 4k

      • nah trying to find out pixel response, like is it 8ms or lower…
tried ringing them up and they couldnt tell me ;(
also cant find out peak brightness etc

@3:05 I think they're talking about response times. 6ms which I think seems reasonable.

Peak brightness they seem to say 1500nits? Seems unrealistically high

  • Toshiba is not what it once was. This is just rebadged Yum Cha.

Toshiba is owned by Hisense, who make pretty good TVs, especially their mid range ones for the US market. The Australian Hisense models seem like gimped IPS models. This one is VA and maybe more comparable to the US Hisense models.

      • if its the same panel as the U8G, i want… but finding out is hard xD

        • I don't think it's the U8G. It's got 60/72 local dimming zones vs 132/360 on the U8G. Contrast and brightness seem comparable, but other specs seem more on the level of the (US version) U7G. Seems like a different panel all together.

  • Looking for a new tv to support the new Xbox and this one seems ok for the price. I am coming from a base level early model 4k Kogan so ANYTHING would be better. Thoughts on other options at around this price if this one is a no go would be greatly appreciated. Thanks team!

    • The alternatives would be the TCL one I mentioned (no 120hz on that). The TCL C825 (Mini LED but a bit pricier). Refurbished X90J from Sony's eBay if it ever comes back. I don't know if Sony has rolled out VRR to this yet, the TCL and this TV have it. VRR is great and you'll definitely want it.

Beyond that really it's either TV's that don't have FALD, or TV's that don't have HDMI 2.1. Given this has both I wouldn't really bother with them.

If you want to spend more the LG C1 is pretty much the best TV you can buy for a console period.

LG nano was around this price as well it was for only a short period. Panel it is IPS what it is not for everyone.

        • To get 120hz I don't think you can get better than this for the price.

  • Surely the U9G for another $100 would be better than this, for the 65" anyway? With 100hz native (I think?😁) and FALD and Mini Led.

    • 4k@120?

  • It looks like it has a lot to offer, one person who purchased this unit for his parents from another forum said the build quality was quite good.

Regarding Toshiba, this is not the Toshiba of old as it would be double that price. Last Japanese Toshiba device I purchased was a dual CD player which was purely gorgeous and cost a mint. And yes of course it still works, it was built to last. The posts above do make a good point, how good is the support if something goes wrong?

Hisense holds 95% (Toshiba 5%) of the Toshiba TV brand license and do the manufacturing at Hisense but apparently the design and development is still out of Toshiba Japan.

      • Yes I noticed that. They have a lot of Japanese influence, their promo looked similar to what Sharp was promoting with their 2021 models.
Saying this, I think Japan and China have some strong partnerships going with manufacturing, stronger than Japan and Korea but that is another story which I will not comment on.

  • I have been using the 55" model for a little over 2 months now.
I got it slightly discounted $1350 from $1599 at the time

Happy to try to answer any questions people have :)

It has HDMI 2.0B main reason I got it was hoping I could do higher herts on a non HDMI 2.1 graphics card
And I have tested and used it true 4k 120hz with Adaptive Sync from an old 5700XT
1440P and 1080P 120hz works fine as well
Tried forcing a few other custom resolutions like ultrawide but doesn't like them I guess as it's not 4:4:4 subsampling

Build-in speakers are very good I use them mostly and only turn on the surround with sub if I want a bit more bass

The first panel I got was defective however a blotch on the screen from the manufacturer and a fixed pixel.
After calling Hisense and sending emails they arranged a tech onsite to assess, he then delivered replacement unit which has so far been flawlas and thankfully no fixed pixels :)

    • notice any ghosting/bluring? I read the 55" has 8ms response time which is rather high for gaming :(

    • When you say blotch, does it look like a smudge on the screen when it's off?

Also, does yours lean back from bottom to top slightly on the stand?

  • For my eyes, I do not notice any ghosting/blurring.
Coming from using 120 and 144hz TN panels and VA 144 Panel atm to compare
Input lag at from my nonscientific moving mouse back and forth fast or dragging windows around cannot notice any delay

  • Bought one of these but now on the good guys back order train. Fingers crossed I get it some time this year!

    • Likewise, ordered online from my local warehouse just before midnight to get the $1199 price.
Got a call yesterday regarding my order and so I asked if there was anything we could do as other stores in the state have stock, and happy to pick it up.
They did something and pushed a Web order or Web transfer or something behind the scenes to a store with stock, so I should get the discounted price, pick it up myself but will need to chase up my delivery refund.

Awaiting a call from the store it was pushed to today.

      • I hope it works out for you because this always concerns me https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/the-good-guys-onli… I should have remembered before hitting the go button for delivery!

        • I was in the area for work today anyway so in the end I drove to the other store even though they had no sign of the Web order transfer.

Salesman was happy to sell another one to me today for the sales price of $1199, and so now I've just requested the cancellation of my online purchase.

All set up, watched some Disney plus with the kids and it plays most of the animated in Dolby vision. Looks beautiful.

TV does have a slightest lean back from bottom to top though on its stand. wouldn't be as noticeable if I had it on a low line TV unit but it's ups bit higher. Wondering if it was designed to project the Dolby atmos better?
