Kobo Libra H2O Good for Introductory E-Reader?

Hi OzBargainers,

There's a Libra H2O on the marketplace kept in good quality for around $125AUD.

Would this be good for just a casual, first-time e-reader? I'm a librarian with a local Council in Australia and so read a lot of books but not too much, maybe one book a week/fortnight?

TIA.

Kobo is more versatile than Kindle. It can read more file formats than Kindle's mobi. With Libra H2O, you can use OverDrive to borrow books from your local library (if your local library offers it). $125 is a good price if the condition is good. Switched from Kindle to Kobo and have not looked back since.

    • Cheers. Yes I primarily borrow books for free since I'm a big believer in the public library system. Would you know if your Overdrive library syncs with Libby on mobile apps? I've got maxed out loans for comic books on Libby on my iPad so I'm wondering if they would automatically transfer or not let me load any more on the e-reader.

Overdrive on Kobo works on the same library membership as the mobile apps so if you are maxed out on your iPad, you can't borrow any more books on your Kobo. I think books currently on loan transfer across devices but never tried that.

        • Yeah cheers. All I know is that OverDrive have phased out the OverDrive mobile app completely so was just wondering if there was Libby on ereader but I guess they’re keeping it the same for that platform.

  • $125 is definitely a good price if the condition is good.

What I like about this model is allowing you to 'grip' on the side and move pages with the side buttons.

AFAIK comic books you borrowed on Libby won't transferred to Kobo, I can give it a try for you if you want? Just let me know the comic name you after and I'll try it for you.

I borrowed APC magazine, it didn't transferred across.

Kobo allows you to load epub, thus good to get a public domain books (such as z-lib)

    • Cheers mate! And no need, I've made the decision to get the Kobo tonight from the seller and so will playtest everything by myself. Thank you for the offer though.
Just wondering, is z-lib kind of like a free e-book depository? Not sure across all the websites and stuff. Trying to get as much free stuff 'legally' as possible so would be grateful if you knew any other sites I should be aware of.
