Gibson SG Standard $2,349 (Was $3,799) Delivered @ Logans Pianos Burwood

1320

This is my first deal to share

The modern Gibson SG Standard (2021) (which has the new soft shell Gibson Case) is a classic US made guitar.

The price is amazing, RRP is $3800 and you will often find them discounted to $3099. This is the biggest discount I have ever seen on it and I had been waiting a year to add a real Gibson to my collection. This is the price you would expect a Gibson SG Special or Tribute to be discounted to, not a Standard.

I had been waiting a long time for this and purchased one just before Christmas (I purchased the Heritage Cherry which you I had to message them for stock in which they had).

No other store I have seen is offering one at this price (Belfield Music has the next best price I can see at $2600) and it is a bargain that I took up myself.

Logan's RRP seems inflated, other places are showing circa $2950 as the RRP: https://www.belfieldmusic.com.au/products/gibson-sg-standard…

  • Just realised this is probably my first time seeing a guitar deal on ozbargain this year lol. Tempting but can’t justify forking out the money for it rn

    • There was an Ltd ec10 last week for under $300. That was cheap buy I already had an ec50 so didn't need another

    • Her always have guitar deals but only had one is not a bad deal during these years, that Maton one.

nice to see some high end guitar deals rather than the school locker entry level deals …… i’m still searching for the killer deal on an ibanez george benson japanese made …..they don’t seem to be made in the big numbers or sit on racks in shops much so i think it will be a long search …. and imports being over $1000 it’s add the gst ….

  • Always liked the look of the Gibson SG.

Daniel john's used to play one and there's a sick looking Gothic version that Billy corgan played back in the day.

  • Extra $200 now but sold out?

  • I have a 2012 Epiphone SG standard and a Gibson 2017 SG. To be perfectly honest, apart from the Gibson P/Us being streets ahead of the Epiphone, in terms of playability, the Epiphone stands up well to the Gibson.

  • Is this what Jack Black plays on in School of Rock?

    • Same but different
      2003 model?

      • Definitely a 2002-3 - weird "sort of 60s" pickguard is a dead giveaway

Love my SG standard, it's my favorite. Bought it in the good old days in around 2008, on special from Musician's Friend, when AU$ was stronger than US$, no GST and free shipping from the US. Paid less than $1,000 on special - just snuck under the $1000 threshold

    Hi there Folks,

Feel free to roast me if this is out of order.

I'm the chief web dude (official title) from Logans Pianos, and just wanted to throw out there that although we're currently out of stock, our next shipment of these is due early Feb, and you can pre-order at the current list price for delivery in Feb.

I'm also happy to answer any general questions people have about the store, this deal, or any other deals we have going on at the moment.

      Welcome

      • Thanks!

    • You should post any awesome deals you have on this site on an ongoing basis. Looks like alot of guitar nerds here

I know! I'm pleasantly surprised to see them coming out of the woodwork.

I'd honestly never heard of this site until today - is it acceptable to post deals from your own store? We usually do a monthly clearance list, and there's almost always things on it that are going for at or below cost price, and If it's something the community would gain from, I'd be delighted to post them here. I'm just cautious of turning what looks to me like a pretty great community run site into yet another adboard.

          Please do.

As long as they are bargains (not cheaper elsewhere) and you declare your association (as you are now) then your deals will be welcomed.

What would be really awesome is an ozbargain exclusive discount code for an extra percentage off again (speak to your boss).

          • @MS Paint: That's good to know! Thanks for the tip :-) Currently just finessing a few details, and will hopefully have something up by the end of the day :-)

        • If you have any good acoustic guitar around 2-3K,could you post it,Im looking to buy some more to try

          • @yuisakas: Plenty! Is there anything specific you're looking for in terms of features/design/sound? We have a fairly extensive range.

My suggestion would be the first three on this list are all great places to start if you're bargain hunting: https://www.loganspianos.com.au/collections/specials-clearan…

I'm personally particularly fond of the Takamine, though I'll admit a degree of bias as we designed this one in-house, and had Takamine build it for our 100th anniversary.

Here's a video I made a couple of days after we got our first shipment of them:

            • @DanFromLogans:

as we designed this one in-house, and had Takamine build it for our 100th anniversary.

That's a real pretty custom build. Nice job

@MS Paint: Thanks! It's a fun point of difference we have with a lot of other stores in Aus. When we're unhappy with the offerings at a particular price point, we'll work with one of our favourite manufacturers to put together something we're both proud to put our names on.

It's particularly fun in the world of Orchestral strings. Guitar players may or may not be aware that violins pretty much all use the same spruce/maple combination. We've had a lot of fun using different tonewoods like willow and ash for the back and sides. Not only can you source high quality timber a lot easier, they look really unique. We did this ashback for our 95th anniversary, and it's one of my favourite things they've ever done.

            • @DanFromLogans: ga/gc shape, ive tried some and I like the shape of Cole clark AN3,Id like to tried some more of different wood

              • @yuisakas: In the interests of avoiding the most obvious recommendations you'll find anywhere, I'm going to give you a few curveball recommendations, but suffice to say I agree with the consensus that a Martin would be a great instrument if you can find the right one, and don't live somewhere too warm or humid . I'll also mention you should consider what guitar is going to survive your local climate. As a point of reference, anything that uses lighter bracing of under 5/16'' is going to struggle anywhere North of about Canberra, unless you have it under more or less permanent temperature and humidity control. Last summer, we had nearly a dozen high end acoustics come in with serious structural damage resulting from humidity or temperature in Sydney. Most manufacturer's argue climate damage is misuse, and therefore not covered by warranty, so that's something else you may want to consider.

Having said all of that, here are my recommendations from our range:

                Takamine Santa Fe
                Yamaha FSX5
                Takamine EF740fSTT

Note that these are REALLY HARD to get at the moment, but also REALLY AWESOME - I'd guess almost exactly what you're looking for.

                Guild OM150CE

                • @DanFromLogans: FGX5 was my first guitar 2months ago,it is a ok guitar but too big for me,I know fsx5 is a small body but lose interest with yamaha anymore, the rest price its't good.

          • @yuisakas: You buy a $3K guitar just to try it?

            • +1

@tonka: Might as well just get a Martin

              • @MS Paint: off the record, if you can find a pre-2018 standard series, I'd suggest that'd be a great place to put your money.

              • @MS Paint: Taylor is better I have a 714ce is good, martin no guitar is above good point for me

                • +1

@yuisakas: Ha! I feel the same way about Taylors. They're one of those guitars I quite like when I hear other people play them, but they just feel wrong to me in all sorts of ways. Definitely big props to Bob Taylor though for his general build philosophy, but it's just not for me. As you say below, In that price range things get very personal, And I probably wouldn't buy something I hadn't personally held.

            • @tonka: You have to try to know what you like,3K you can sell for 2.5K,if it is good condition, Some good 3K buy you can sell for 3K at this market.

  • Well it's clear I've been asleep during Covid. Wtf did these prices climb so high? I bought my 2017 standard for just under 2k. Crikey!

    • +2

Between you and me, I agree - the Gibson prices are really getting out of control. In 2017-18, we were selling Standards for $1899! We can't even buy them for that anymore.

  • In response to requests for an exclusive discount code, I posted this offer today:

If anyone has any questions for me, I'll be live during business hours today and tomorrow
