Don't waste your time, get a kiwi design helmet. I bought one of these a year ago and it snapped, thankfully could get a refund. Got the kiwi one off aliexpress, no regrets. More comfortable, secure and build quality.

    • Have a kiwi, very comfortable.

    • Care to share a link?

    • this looks like bad design. The dial juts out, which will not make it comfortable to lean back on if you sit in a high backed chair. The original one has a dial that does not jut out.

Its the reason I skipped the valve index, although they weren't selling them to us anyway.

  • I’m looking into getting a OQ2 but I’m a little worried about motion sickness. I never tried these VR before and stayed away from the PSVR due to this too.

I hear a lot of people say the OQ2 is way better then the PSVR tho

Plenty of games that are stationary (restricts movement) that is ok with motion sickness.

I found what helped most is play-time. The more I played the less I thought about it.

    • I often get motion sickness on rides and boats. I have only experiences motion sickness once playing the game but I think it was a rollercoaster video that caused it.

    • Depending on where you buy it you could probably try it and return it within the return window if it was a real problem. Start with games with no artificial movement (e.g. you only move with your real body or teleport and don't slide through the world or rotate the world) as virtually nobody gets motion sickness in those.

If you do get motion sickness in games with smooth locomotion, start with games that don't use extreme movement, turn with your real body or snap turning (no smooth turning), and take long breaks as soon as you begin to feel sick. Most people build up a resistance to it over time, though whether you can become completely immune varies from person to person.

P.S. If you do get one, remember to get a referral code from someone who already has a Quest 2 before activating the headset for free store credit.

I was mainly looking at the games TWD Saints and Sinners, RE4 VR and Half Life

        • +1

RE4 has teleport if you have trouble with smooth locomotion. Saints & Sinners doesn't — it's quite possible you might have no motion sickness or might be able to become resistant to it quickly, though. When starting out, avoid strafing and turn with your body in real life.

For Half-Life, if you mean Half-Life: Alyx, it was actually designed for teleportation with a smooth movement option added late in development. Keep in mind you'll need to stream it from a gaming PC, though, it can't be played on the headset by itself.

If you mean the original Half-Life VR mod sideloaded to the Quest 2 (or Half-Life 2 VR streamed from a PC), unfortunately it is one of the types of games most likely to cause motion sickness (along with most emulated classic FPS games like Quake1/2, Doom 1/2/3, etc.), but you might be fine.

          • @Sven Viking: Sorry I meant Alyx

            I don’t have a PC tho, only a older late 2013 iMac

Had a feeling the game looked too good to be true on the device for itself

            • @Twisty: Yeah, sorry but Alyx is a PC VR game. It’s not impossible they could port it to PS5 for PSVR2 in the future. It’s often difficult to anticipate what Valve will or won’t do.

        • did they improve the graphics in RE4 VR? Because the original game is horribly outdated, and if you're playing it in VR, it will look even worse if they didn't update it.

          • @lostn: It looked good but I’m not sure if they did

These seem to fail within a few months for a very large number of people (most?). Buy third party instead

Honestly surprised there hasn't been a class action over these. It's ridiculous that they're still selling them

    • +2

More likely that the loudest people are the ones who've had it fail. In any case if it did would just get a full refund and current price is good. Haven't used this tho.

I've got the bobovr m2 pro and it's good altho not the most secure and the padding is soft and not breathable unfortunately

      • Mine snapped and I stayed quiet. Until now I guess. They sent out a replacement but I sold it and kept the 3rd party one I'd gotten which fit better.

      • Wrong in this case. Engineering defect. Under no circumstances should anyone buy the official strap.

      • The number of reports of straps snapping in this case is overwhelming compared to other products, and most of them are very similar, including many who found the strap snapped when it wasn't even in use.

I bought one a few months ago hoping they might have solved the issue in newer batches. It was quite comfortable but developed a hairline crack and snapped within a couple of months, then the return process has taken almost a month, and the warranty keeps ticking away while I have no product.

Original BoboVR straps sometimes snap too, but they've beefed up the thickness of the problem part in newer versions (not sure if this applies to all types or just their new battery version).

      • In any case if it did would just get a full refund

No refund offered for me, just replacement. (It was outside the Amazon return window.)

I had one it failed. Replaced with no questions and apparently new ones have different materials. Anyone had any experience of a newer model failing like the original ones bought in late 2020 or early 2021?

      • +1

        They still fail.

      • +1

I purchased one June 2021. It's used most days and still going strong.

      • +1

I always wondered if it were certain batches with issues or certain manufacturers. I have one from launch that has seen a ton of use and no issues.

        • Very possible. If specific batches, they're still around though.

      • I bought mine from Amazon in September with the same hope, and it snapped within a couple of months. They did want it sent back for investigation, though, and paid huge Fedex shipping fees to China, which I thought was weird since they should have tons of failed straps on hand already. It's possible they really did change the materials and really did want to investigate this one, maybe?

        • When I sent back to Hong Kong via fedex they did the organising for pickup and paid for it.

  • It's a lot more fun with a strap-on.

  • I bought the Esimen one with case a year ago and its held up perfect. I have a big head and the kids use it aswell daily. So its always being adjusted and thrown around the lounge.

    • That esi brand is expensive but not many choices in amazon…..

  • Would the halo style is better? As with these basically same design as the original, and you need to tighten it and therefore pressing your face hard

    • A lot of people find the BoboVR M2 better, but some people (me included) have problems with the antenna pads on top of your head becoming painful over time. Their new battery version has bigger softer pads so maybe that solves the problem.

      • +1

I have long hair and I have issues with the M2 not staying in place. I've gone back to using my elite strap.

        • have long hair
