Owning an Android 2021 Turnoff of The Year True of False?

Owning an Android phone is officially this year’s biggest turn-off in the UK

It's ok I didn't want to date an Apple 🍏 user anyway.

I wonder if OzBargainers have a different opinion. Is it because Android is synonymous with being stingy? Is Apple 🍏 a status symbol?

I was no Apple fan till Samsung downgraded my S21U with the latest firmware. Now skipping ads is disabled!
The IP13 finally got things to a fine art and is a practical all singin and dancing device.

    • What do you mean skipping ads is disabled?

      • before I could just hit the bottom left button twice withe right timing and the ads were gone. Took me a while to get the timing right. But they must have found out and deleted that function!

We stopped caring what others use years ago when both OSs became about on par with feature parity nowadays.

Use what you want, enjoy what you like. Who cares what other people think.

Why even care or promote a clickbait tabloid article?

Anyone who's shallow enough to think the mere OS of a phone should dictate who they date likely isn't worth knowing.

The article must be written by Apple fan and got nothing else worthwhile to do in life for doing first-world problem survey like this

  • It's only a means of communication to me.

I buy what I can afford and what works for me, don't give a stuff what the brand or OS is.

  • How does one fare still owning a bakelite home phone ?
I mean these new fangled touch phones from Telstra are the Shiz…

    crApple
    .

  • I'm moving to Apple. Works out cheaper than. Android as they support their phones longer.

    Just get an older version.

Only issue no ir blaster. No dual Sim card. No SD.

Now just want a phone that works now. Don't wanna keep looking for bug fixes

  • I buy the one with a headphone jack.

    Only Xperia for me.

      Moved from sony to samsung.

I regret it. Now I understand why some people find it annoying to use android. Still better than ios for my use however.

If someone refused to date me based on the phone I had, I wouldn't want to date them to begin with.

Stupidest article I've read in a long time

      • +2

        And the shallowest.

    Lol… ok, I’ll have a go at this…

If someone judged me on what phone I use and thought it was “ick”, it would give me red flags against them. What sort of shit person judges someone by their choice of phone?

I'm thinking the person conducting the survey was either asking teenagers, or hanging outside an Apple store.

      • It was an UK dating app POM for 3000 users

How the hell did you even find this bulltish article?

  • More bad news for SlavOz -

And, in a more topical icks, wearing a face mask incorrectly (with your nose exposed) somehow made it into the top ten turn-offs.

All those commenting here are showing their age.

It's not about the features, it's about the ease-of-use and the perceived status symbol.

As someone in their early 20s, it really is a thing for younger people to judge each other based on their type of phone. Most people won't care enough for it to be a make-or-break thing, but an iPhone is almost more of a status symbol than a phone for under-21s.

If you're buying a top-tier Samsung or Pixel, your experience is just as good as an iPhone. However, less well-off younger people (who don't have the cash to drop on an iPhone and don't have rich family members to gift one to them) almost always tended to make do with a cheap Huawei/Oppo/ZTE/old Samsung/Moto/LG. Complete with crappy camera, laggy performance and terrible battery life - even a second-hand iPhone tended to offer a better experience than cheap Androids, and when you're taking photos to share via Instagram/Snapchat/Messenger, you get known as 'the guy/girl with the weird phone'.

Yes, Androids can do almost anything an iPhone can, and often better (full disclosure, I'm an Android user). However, when 8/10 of your friends at school have iPhones and you don't, you can't be a part of their FaceTime chats, their iMessage groups, can't AirDrop photos to each other, your Snapchat pics and Instagram stories look worse than theirs, can't borrow a charger… All minor inconveniences, but young people can be brutal to each other (especially those in school).

This kind of mentality does continue into adulthood too - Androids are often seen as the 'weird' phones. They tend to be bought more by those who can't afford iPhones or those who are 'nerdy' enough to deliberately choose a 'weird' phone. Even though almost nobody will completely shun you over a phone, you can often notice young women in particular raising their eyebrows at Android users. It's absolutely a thing, and until budget Androids can compete with iPhones, it'll continue to be a thing.

Sorry mate this is the biggest piece of bs I’ve read in a long time.

      • Care to share what part is BS?

        • Well, I can tell you I have a mate who teaches year 7 maths at a private school and they did a survey in class re: phone model/make (for stats)

          iPhone - 41%
          Samsung - 37%
          Nokia - 8%
          Google - 5%
          Other - 9%

In that case it's close to a 60/40 split in favour of Android (if you count other as entirely Android OS which is very likely)
