This might be a bit of a silly question but is there supposed to be a 4wd indicator light come on when I press the 4wd button on the transfer shifter? I have it in high but when I press the 4wd button nothing seems to happen. I've also tried engaging it while slowly driving around in 1st with no luck

By "button" do you mean lever? Can you feel it move! Can you shift into low?
There's a button on the side of the lever. The transfers shifter is marked H-N-L4, and I presume the 4wd button swi5ches between 3H and 2H
Definitely a hilux/Toyota forum question. While there might be a few hilux owners here, they seem to be mich more likely to own a cheap hatchback, euro poser mobile or something less than 5yo.
Thanks guys, I'll give it a go in there. I'm tempted to just put it up on jacks and rest it but I wanted to make sure I'm on to something first
Yes a light will come on, but only if the switch on the transfer case is working, and only if it's actually going into 4wd. Do you get a clunk when pressing the switch? Does it wind up the drivetrain if you've pressed it, and then try to do a turn on bitumen? Can also put it on grass or sand and see if it spins just the rear tyres, or a front one as well.
You could have a problematic switch in the lever, transfer case motor issue, or feedback switch issue. From memory I think they have a vacuum operated thing in the front diff as well?
Best to ask on the Australian Toyota 4WD forum I guess reaches a targeted audience
