Thanks OP. Awesome price on the mouthwash

  • Finally got some Floss!

  • +8

Will give a review on the floss.

It is quite a thin floss and it's much thinner compared to Oral B's floss, so it's especially useful if your teeth are crowded closely together. As for the taste, its minty flavour is severely lacking. If anything, it's pretty much flavourless when compared to the strong minty flavour of Oral B's floss. Great value with this price, so would say it's a good buy.

As for the mouthwash these do not contain fluoride, so if you are looking for one then this product does have it. Probably better to buy when half price and if you are planning to use fluoride mouthwash regularly or are really wanting a fluoride based mouthwash (due to the fluoride quality dropping in effectiveness kinda quickly and hence expiring faster than non-fluoride based mouthwash).

Final note and sorry for being that guy, but mouthwash is NOT a replacement for brushing, just as brushing is NOT a replacement for interdental cleaing!

    • Then is mouthwash useless? And what does fluoride do? I’ve never used mouthwash and am wondering if there is any benefit to it

      • +1

No, I would not say it is useless. It can help with cleaning your soft tissues a bit more (gums, tongue, etc.) but it does not deeply penetrate into your plaque (bunch of bacteria) that accumulates on your teeth throughout the day. That's why it is recommended to brush twice a day to combat the plaque, and cleaning between your teeth (interdental cleaning) helps remove any food for this plaque to consume in those surfaces.

        • I floss religiously but actually the science behind the benefits of flossing are not that good.

Apparently there are not many studies showing it’s a significant benefit.

When I floss though and I am taking chunks of food from the middle of my teeth it feels like that would be a benefit.

@Grok: Hmm I understand your intentions, but in saying that "absence of proof isn’t proof of absence." That being just because the evidence isn’t there doesn’t mean an idea is wrong. (quoted from here) I believe what has happened is long-term, large-scale and controlled studies into flossing is limited in itself.

This means that mostly short term effects can only be recorded. Even still, gingivitis (a form of gum disease) has been proven to be reduced with tooth brushing more than just doing brushing alone. Moreover, flossing and tooth brushing may reduce plaque accumulation better than only brushing. Sadly long term effects like dental caries aren't easily recorded in these short-term studies as they accumulate over time (same with periodontitis - severe form of gum disease). Also on a personal level, typically flossing reduces swelling & inflammation in the gums (mostly between teeth) which ensures less chance of developing forms of gum disease which can then affect your teeth at the same time.

I could talk more on this, but I feel that based on what these short-term studies have proven is more than enough to show that flossing does help. If it only improves gum health (which influences tooth health), then surely it is better to use it than to go without it.

Oh and this is what fluoride is good for:

Fluoride is beneficial to teeth because it helps to:

        • Rebuild (remineralize) weakened tooth enamel
        • Slow down the loss of minerals from tooth enamel
        • Reverse early signs of tooth decay
        • Prevent the growth of harmful oral bacteria
        • It's worth noting that a notable amount (1mg per L) of your fluoride exposure will probably come from tap water unless you manage to live off exclusively bottled water without a fluoride source. Most filters are not capable of removing fluoride, and you wouldn't want them to.

      A counter review.

I used to use Oral B floss and now prefer the Colgate version, it is thin but wide. Yes I have crowded teeth. I find it the best for me.

As for the mouthwash, yes the Plax does not have fluoride but that is what toothpaste is for. Plax had an anti-bacterial to reduce dental plaque. That is why I use it.

      • Yeah if you're brushing twice a day, consuming lots of fluoridated water, etc., then it's not a big deal to buy a fluoride mouthwash. For some they lack doing what I have mentioned and so it could be beneficial in reintroducing fluoride back into the mouth.

  • Thanks, I ordered one of each mouthwash. Let's see which one is best.

    • I like the green tea flavour

  • Got the 100m value pack floss thanks!

  • Floss all gone it seems

  • This coincides well with my new year's resolution to have minty fresh breath, thanks OP.

  • Aren't these just the regular prices? I've got a sub to the 100m floss and toothpaste and the normal prices I pay are $2.69 for the floss and $4.04 for the toothpaste which is what they are here.

Your subscribe & save price isn't locked in, your subscribe & save subscription will show whatever price it is currently.

The mouthwash is the lowest price recorded and floss equal lowest:

      https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0778Y88H2

      • Sure, but as I said, these are the prices I normally pay. I literally just got some more of each a few weeks ago and I paid these prices for them.

        • +1

The floss was $2.99 ($2.69 S&S) a few weeks back as per this Black Friday deal. Those 8 days were the only time it was $2.99 ($2.69 S&S) in the past 6 months as per this camels graph. Not the regular price, but it has been this price prior to that (March and previous) as mentioned previously and in the description.

The mouthwash is the cheapest price recorded yet, as mentioned. It has been close to this price in other deals here, eg $3.77 ($0.08 more) for Black Friday 22/11 when the floss was also $2.99/$2.69 (S&S).

The other items are probably more regularly available at those prices, thus why I didn't post them as a deal, such as your toothpaste.

          • @hamza23: Camelx3 isn't always 100% accurate. I've got orders going back 6+ months for the floss and I've only ever paid $2.69.

            • @BigTime: Yeah such a deal older than 6 months at $2.99/$2.69 is linked in the description:

Dental floss is the same price as the popular deal in March.

That's unrelated to what I said about in the past 6 months (not 6+ months). Nor does it contradict camels. The March and prior $2.99/$2.69 price is recorded in the 12 month graph on Camels. It had a minimum purchase of 3 back in Jan but that was removed in the March deal.

              All floss deals here.

      • Wait so if I subscribe for Plax at 3.69 every 2 months and in 2 months it isn't on sale then I pay full price instead of 3.69?

        • +3

Yes that's correct, it's recommended to cancel your subscription after receiving your item. As per description:

You can change your Subscribe & Save date here. You can cancel your subscription here. The price is NOT locked in.

From Amazon Page. "Note that prices may increase or decrease from delivery to delivery."

          • @hamza23: Thanks for the info. Do you get flagged or anything for frequently cancelling subscriptions?

            • +2

@Parasite1917: I haven't had any issues or heard of any issues, I have cancelled quite a few. When you cancel the subscription there is actually a cancellation reason for 'I wanted the initial discount'.

              • +2

@hamza23: I lie and choose another reason, just in case Bezos ever flicks through my order history and decides I'm rorting the system and bans me from Amazon.

                • +1

@AustriaBargain: Me too. My brain always overthinks that whole thing, rather than thinking “oh, Bezos the old dr evil doppelgänger mofo is too busy with flying to mars/world domination to worry about whether I’m getting chewing gum at 10% off retail to give a hoot”

            • +1

@Parasite1917: No. You are not living up to your name.

  • I recommend a water flosser.

If your teeth stains easily, this helps heaps.

I had pretty bad staining from drinking tea/coffee and my dentist has to do a good scale and clean every 6m to remove the stains.

When I started using a water flosser the dentist noticed it immediately and didn't even bother giving me a scale and just did a normal clean when I visited.

Note: I use the flosser every time I shower.
I also previously rinse my mouth after every meal and now that I work from home most days I use the water flosser after every meal.

    • I actually bought one a couple of years ago and still havent used it yet, so you use it in the shower? I just thought i was meant to use it after brushing.

      • It's waterproof, you can use it anytime. I just find it easier to floss and brush my teeth in the shower.

I also use it after most meals when I'm working from home.

    • I second this. I couldn't see myself using the regular flosser because it looked too difficult (for me!). The water flosser is easy because all it needs is water. I haven't bothered with changing the tips regularly as recommended since I bought the countertop flosser a couple of years ago. Is changing them really necessary if they work well?

      • I don't change them… It's just a plastic tube… It's not like a brush that wears out.

  • I don't understand this new S&S set up. Ordered it on S&S, supposed to be $3.69, but says $4.10

It hasn't shipped yet, so hoping the 3.69 gets charged when it finally ships. It still says $4.10 on my order though.
