Or maybe some good "made in Australia" decor ones locally…when they're on sale. Rather than sending manufacturing profits to China and distribution profits to bezos. And minimising how much we mail around the world.

I am over this argument, especially during COVID times.

Constantly given the guilt trip to "support local", yet half the locals jack up their price to rip off prices.

Some local person who started selling cupcakes put up some paragraph rant about how people should be supporting local businesses, then followed it up with selling 4 cupcakes for $50 WTF is this?

        Yeah that's an issue.
        1) local labour is expensive
        2) local market is small (less economies of scale)
        3) overseas markets don't always have the same environmental costs/legislation (with regard to waste water/fluids/emissions/etc)
        4) overseas markets don't always have the same testing/quality costs

Probably a few others, but yeah local is more expensive. It's why we don't make much stuff here any more. Where stuff is similarly priced, e.g. $2 more on a container for something local, I'll go that route.

Amaxing. Do you have a photo of the cupcakes?

      • $12.50 cupcakes! Omg yummy

Not all Decor products are made here. There are some made "under supervision" in China.

BTW., hate to disappoint you, the profits of Decor would mainly go to US of A. Much the same as going to Bezos.

      • Haha actually yeah I deliberately said bezos rather than USA. Bezos is just a horrible excuse for a human being.

Decor was at least started in Australia, and seems to be heavily involved in Australia, and some manufacturing - "value add" profits would at least stay here (skills, labour, etc).

It's a lot better than basically sending all money offshore, outside of some underpaid delivery and warehouse workers.

        • Made in Australia products using equipments made in China. Yeah nah

  • I just use the box/container the food came in - generally has the use-by-date & nutrients/ingredients.

  • Never not seen anyone on principle intent on buying an iPhone stop to pause and say I will get only phones made in Australia. Horses for courses really. YMMV!

  • Yes it's OZbargain but not "Made in OZ Bargain". A deal is a deal, although this really much of a deal.
Aldi Crofton does far far better air tight container deals every now and then. Their overall quality and style are also better. Got some of these last time and another style, going strong. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/goto/415242

    • Just curious about the airtight claim, are they REALLY airtight ???

      • How tight are you referring? Like suction-proof tight? Or tight enough for aerospace? Everyone has different benchmarks and expectations - hence be specific and see if it is fit for purpose on your behalf.

        • Well at least I can store biscuits without them going soft or water won't leak ! Too many I bought from Coles & Woolies could NOT do either of the these when they claim they are "airtight".
