Aldi Clearance - 1.5TB Medion NAS $64.99 [Toowoomba, QLD]

790

Saw these at my local Kearneys Spring (Toowoomba) store. They had 6 in the cabinet. Priced down from $129.00. I think this is an absolute bargain for a 1.5tb NAS.

Now isn't that a reflection on the town,,,,

      • please don't be a Troll….

Better mention the location in the title as it's likely to be a manager special. I've never seen such a clearance in the several stores I have visited. Does this mean that Toowoomba residents don't care much about network storage or backup?

go easy on them, at least they can spell 'residents' :)

      • Are you saying they live in the car?

    • +13

For them, Nas is a rapper ;)

What's the deal with Toowoomba? I haven't been watching the news lately…

        • Wants to be included… Best thing about Toowoomba is the highway outta there!

        • It is where the band Chumbawamba was formed. Kind of a big deal..

        WTF??? They're a Brit band! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chumbawamba

thats a good price for a NAS let alone a 1.5TB hard drive with it.

I got a USB patriot NAS to connect my external hard drive to for $49 from MSY. This is much better value than that.

  • Found it 2 days ago but had to wait for the 24hr cooling off…

  • Sounds like a good deal, but these are more like to be store only clearance. Will have a look at my local Aldi next visit to check my luck.

  • Damn thats a good price, want to buy one and post it to me? :D

  • just called HQ. according to the female, this was on sale back in November
and claims the other stores wouldnt have it.

she also says she cant check which stores has it nor their #.

    pretty useful isnt she?

Aldi probably doesn't track store stock levels, they just send out palettes of stuff, and it's up to the manager to shift them, which is why they have such leeway in marking down. I once bought a piece of bathroom furnishing for $10 down from $40 IIRC.

    • yes, peeves me off that you can't ring aldi stores

      • Save costs on staff answering phones all the time. The queues would be even longer!!

    • Aldi have some real mental health issues when it comes to inter-store communications & stock control. Go to your local store & ask the manager to ring a couple of other stores for you, if you ask nicely & it's fairly quiet they'll do it.

Aldi HQ = halfwit HQ IME! ;)

      • +1

its all in the name of reducing costs. Believe me when I say sometimes 5 people will be working in the whole store including the manager. People don't have time to answer phones when there is so much work to be done.

Unlike Coles and Woolies, Adli hires and rosters limited people, so you have to do everything from Registers to stocking/carding to cleanup.

        • Yep the cost cutting side of it I understand, to be honest I've been in some stores at times & I'd swear that the staff number is as low as 2-3 inclusive of the manager! All of the managers carry staff mobiles, that's the only way they can communicate with other stores because they don't have landlines at all AFAIK.

However, the staffing costs are not the full story…a large part of their odd phone policy is to do with the time the German Aldi boss got kidnapped & they had to pay up to get him back. After that they went all paranoid about inter-office communication. One regional manager let that slip when I had a blow-up over warranty with them once! :)

    • Most people would be calling about the sale stuff in high demand. They would probably sell by the time you got to the store ;-) They certainly wouldn't register marked down prices centrally same as Woolies HO not knowing if their mgrs have marked down stock to clear from a particular store.

    • ooooh, you dared to sound vaguely sexist. how daring.

nice.. goodluck @ finding one anywhere else everyone :)

  • refurb? customer returns?

    • Might save you putting data on it ;-)

  • I was just round the corner from there 0.0
    Should have checked ozb

  • Anyone knows any store in Syd selling this?

    • +1

nope I checked two Aldi stores on the way home. Rang head office and they have no idea, they said its store specific and if stock was to be cleared it was suppose to back in Nov.

    Absolute BARGAIN!

Note that these NAS are a pretty basic unit and a bit buggy.

See this 56 page Whirlpool thread with HEAPS of info in it…

Hey wow, that's my local store too. I might have been passing other ozbargainers in the aisles all this time!

  • +1

Nearly 4 hour round trip for a NAS? Hmmm. Would a true OzBargainer do it or would a true OzBargainer think of the petrol?

    • That would be dangerously close to being foreveralone.jpg

    • Savings - Petrol, car wear and $10 an hour (where you could be doing something fun instead)

  • Really awesome deal. Sadly none in at the Queanbeyan Aldi.

If anyone from Canberra happens to spot them in store, do let us know.

  • Damn! Awesome deal. Hoping theres stock at my aldi

  • Just cuff links and heart rate monitors locked up at Helensvale Aldi.

    • +8

be on lookout for short of breath unrolled french cuffed shirt wearers, serious kleptomaniacs

  • -7

actually it's not a deal,it's for one specific store only.

    • +3

Lots of deals are store-specific. Doesn't make them any less of a deal

  • +1

    any VIC stores have it?

    • if you find a store let me know =)

      • im still looking. you find anything?

  • This product featured in a clearance sale several months ago in other stores. Don't know why this store is having one now. Maybe they discovered remaindered stock, or maybe ordering central did and this store put up its hands for it. I have noticed that some stores, like the North Sydney one, are more likely to have remaindered stock if you missed out initially.

  • I got the last one from the Oxley store in Brisbane, last Wednesday. It cost me $99.99 though.

  • Got one today from lutwyche, QLD but it was $79. More available.

  • My local has a few left but they are still $129.
Will they scan at a cheaper price?

    • I doubt it, the shops set their own prices for remainders, there is no central coordination, but you can always give it a try, or maybe try to persuade the manager to knock down the price.

    • What's your local?

  • Don't Aldi have a price promis where all stores have they same price? It's on their web site

    • It's for groceries. Weekly specials are specifically excluded. All those weird gadgets in the aisles and in the cabinet were some kind of weekly special or other. And anyway if one shop decides to have a spot reduction, the others are not obliged to follow.

      • Ok thanks

Don't think I could find one any way :(

  • can you plug in more external drives?

  • +3

Kudos to me - I returned the one I bought on Wednesday to Oxley and got my $99.99 refunded after yesterday going to Lutwyche to pick one up for only $79.99. Thanks 'fatWallet' you saved me $20. ka-ching.

'ThePensioner' you cannot add any more drives internally, but you can hook up 2 drives via the 2 usb ports.

    • ok, thanks. could you hook a 4port USB hub via the USB port up to make additional ports?

  • What brand of drive do they have in them? Do Lutwyche have any more left?

  • Any left at Lutwyche - There might be?

Sorry I didn't ask how many they had, but I was asked how many I wanted. I only bought one on Monday morning (maybe I should have got more?) and the display model was still in the glass cabinet. It sounded like they had even more, but they keep the stock out back so I cannot be certain.

  • good deal just for a 1.5tb hard drive. Then you get a NAS as well!
