[VIC] Oakleigh Sacred Heart Girls School Vs Brentwood Secondary College

Hi Parents,

My girl is starting secondary school in 2023. I am trying to choose between Brentwood Secondary School and Sacred Heart Girls's college.

Our girl is above average in education and our focus is toward education, discipline & personality development.

Could someone please provide some of your experiences with these two school or similar school experiences.

Thanks

    Ah, OzSchoolAdvice

OP, do you know any other parents who's kids attend those schools? Neighbours? Family? Better off asking them directly than on an online internet forum.

    • Thanks.Yes I am doing that too.

Sorry - not what u asked

But I assume schools have open days… Find out when they have them and make sure you attend both so you get a feel of the school life and community

    • Thanks, yes definitely will do.

PM me and I can give you advice on both of those schools.

I would personally not want my kid to go to a single sex school

    • Why?

        They might be bi-sexual ???

    • Reason please??

Send your girl to St. Trinians.

  • I went to Sacred Heart as well as a co-ed public school and would recommend the public school any day. When I went to Sacred Heart it had a nickname that wasn't that great and referred to the alleged promiscuity of the girls. It is my belief that being separated from boys did indeed cause some of that. Having come from a co-ed school I couldn't care less about boys.

If personality and personal development is what you think is important I'd recommend Brentwood which still has a really good reputation. The discipline SHGC forces onto the kids is really superficial and random. If you think it's okay for a school to enforce obedience by measuring the length of your skirt then sure.

    • Thanks for your opinion.

Imagine thinking that that's all there is to choosing a school 😂

      • It does give you a fair idea about how good their teaching program is…

Hey, but if want to choose a school for non-Academic reasons, that is your choice.

    • Yes I checked it, SHG 's ranking is very good recently. Considering Brentwood is Public school I feel it will have a vast majority of low performing kids as well so it bit hard to compare.

      • I feel it will have a vast majority of low performing kids

Well then, that is something you need to consider as they will be your kid's peers…

  • Personality development??

  • Any idea which one your kid prefers?

    • She doesn't have a specific requirement. She is bit nervous about the secondary school. She was reading online and was asking about bulling as there was not much of bulling in her Primary school. I wknow bulling will be there everywhere..I wanted to make sure when cases comes up if the school can support to resolve thats good.

  • What is each of the schools the Year 12 results in the previous 5 years?

That may answer the education part

    • Thanks.

  • 'Our girl is above average in education and our focus is toward education, discipline & personality development.'

Almost every parent thinks their child is 'above' average or something special

But otherwise the Herald sun has an article on average study scores for every school this year
    https://www.heraldsun.com.au/education-victoria/every-victor…

I did the check for you
    Sacred Heart Girls - 32
    Brentwood Secondary College - 29

If the 'ultimate' goal is for her to complete Tertiary education the only thing that matters is the score she gets to pick the course she wants. - personally i know nothing about the schools you have mentioned

    • Thanks for for sharing your opinion.

  • Thanks for asking on OzBargain.

I vote, go for the cheaper one…

    • Might not get into either. Will depend on the student, sometimes schools like to performance manage students out.

Trust me, I have seen it done.

      • Why? What did you do wrong?

        • I pissed my pants in every Maths class.
