[SUBS] Disney's "Encanto" Added to Disney+ December 25th

2540

Only just premiered in the theatres December 2nd, yet from Christmas Day you can view it on your couch :) (without sailing the high seas…)

7.6/10 on imdb, 90% on RT

Encanto tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal-every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family's last hope.

Do you remember posting this notification JV…."The Feynman Lectures on Physics Are Now FREE to read online !!!"?

    • God you are seriously obnoxious

      • +8

        Please stop calling me God.

        • Ill do what you tell me god

      • He knows.

  • +9

Damn, Christmas is in 5 days?

  • Any deals on amazon prime or netflix 😏

  • I'd pay for a mth inspired by this thread if Disney had " Dumb and Dumber " .

  • Is it any good?

    • How long is a piece of string?

      • +7

Twice as long from the end to the middle.

        • What a coincidence! That's my review of the movie!

    • +1

My kids saw it today and loved it.

    • +1

it's very broadway musically and not Disney musically if that makes sense

      • Agreed!

And the light in this movie is incredibly real. Backlit hair was the star of the show

  • -2

Anybody else feel like Disney+ is lacking value these days?

    • +2

Doesn’t value increase as the catalogue grows larger? Or do they remove content (I’m not a subscriber)

      • +2

price went from $90/yr to $120/hr and the month to month content is lacking, I very rarely watch a movie/tv show twice so its about the regular updated content, which they seem to release significantly less than say netflix

        • +26

$90 per year up to $120 per hour is a steep price increase indeed

          • +3

@Faro: there is other forms of good quality entertainment you can get for that price

            • @xazark: What can you tell us about this quality entertainment for $120/hr? I'm keen.

              • @Miss B: I mean think of all of the Timezone games you could play for that price. Why, where did your thinking take you?

        • The price increase was to cover the additional content that Disney added when they acquired Twentieth Century Fox for US$17.3 billion.

That content was added under the "Star" banner in Disney+.

But you can easily get Disney+ for 10-15% off with discounted Apple gift cards, which brings the price down to a tad over $100/year.

          • @guidedlight: However, considering that Apple has moved to the universal gift card (rather than iTunes, with discounts), these discounts are unlikely to be available anymore.

            • @chocsyrup: You get rewards points but it works out the same as before.

              • @DryScissors: I haven't heard about rewards points. Are these Apple or Disney?

                • @chocsyrup: Buy apple gift cards when Cole’s or Woolies have a promotion. You get 20 or 30 times the rewards point back in shopping dollars.

Hawkeye is pretty good if you're an MCU fan

      • yea, but 1 show being released with weekly episodes isn't worth it imo

        • +7

You have no kids obviously? Cos they will watch what they like dozens of times, and with Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars etc there is always plenty to watch. And personally I am loving the (really) old cartoons, such as Silver Surfer, Spiderwoman etc from the 80's.

        • +1

But OP doesn't know you can wait for a series to finish and get a mth and watch it in a day .
Maybe its good these guys can give me better content for my mth in the future .

          • @popsiee: yea exactly, thats what im thinking of doing, just getting it every few months to binge watch the show I want and then save some money

    • +1

I've tried most of the streaming services, and this is the only one I've signed up to for the whole year. I definitely get my ten bucks worth of value a month.

Has this been confirmed for Australia? It was out in America late November, and will have been in cinemas for more than 30 days by then. It only came out in Australia on the 2nd of December.

They have done split releases before, Free Guy is being added in February for America.

    • +2

Linked post is Disney Australia's Facebook page

      • +3

        Apparently not enough proof!

        • +1

Sorry, it only came up as Disney for me, didn't see ANZ.

    • I watched free guy on netflix the other day

  • +4

Fantastic film, I really enjoyed it at the cinema. For me it was the best Disney or Pixar film since ‘Coco’ and the best animated musical film since ‘Moana’.

    • +3

Coco is my all time favourite Disney/Pixar. I'm looking forward to this one!

    • Really want to see this, sadly here they're only doing day sessions for kids, no evening sessions. Village btw.

  • -5

Will also probably be free on quite a few streaming websites

  • Anyone know what time on Christmas day it would be on there for free? Ta

    • I remember Soul being released during our Christmas evening time.

      • I remember that. Damn, was hoping for earlier in the day. Thanks

How’s this more valuable than Big Man Tyrone’s posts. At least he’s a good bloke, Walt Disney definitely isn’t.

    • Walt Disney definitely isn’t.

Just found out he is about to be thawed

      • They need to figure out the tech to shrink him down to hamster size first

      • -2

I knew the Republicans were desperate for more Trump voters but that’s taking it a bit far.

    • -3

How’s this more valuable than Big Man Tyrone’s posts.

Not sure why the comparison to BMT… He regularly gets 100+ upvotes. I didn't mention him, why the comparison?

      • -2

His last deal got voted down by the OzB glitterati. Not criticising you but trying to figure out the criteria by which they pick and choose which deals to vote up and down.

Surprised that nobody taught you that not everything is about you but glad you learnt that lesson now.

        • +1

Surprised that nobody taught you that not everything is about you

You are obviously not spackbace's mummy…

        • Neither are a deal, but I think the difference is BMT USED to be a deal before it was always on special. So it's probably the first time people were annoyed by it.

These addition to sub posts have been happening for a long time and there are instructions on how to stop them coming up. These used to get downvoted too but I think anyone who gets annoyed by them has just changed their settings so they don't see them anymore.

Neither bothers me and I check out the comments anyway when I'm bored. If I'm short on time I just scroll past.

          • @Miss B: I don't know how much is a movie tix those days, but for $12 a month isn't it already worth it by itself? Some countries have to wait years before they can stream it on the platform, we get it less than a month after release.

            • -1

@ShouldIBuyIt: Disney Plus is a streaming platform. You buy it to watch shows. How is it a “bargain” that shows are on it? Is there a post every time Netflix acquires movie rights or makes another season of a show? No, it’s expected. It’s literally what you paid for.

              • +2

                @kiriakoz: I currently don't have Disney+.
So my options if I want to see that movie is
                - at the movies, like $15*2
                - Disney+ subscription for a month. $12

See how it's a bargain now?

                • @ShouldIBuyIt: You can do the exact same thing for every show Netflix acquires imo but sure, I get it.

  • I want to know when Spiderman and Matrix will be on streaming services.

    • +4
    • +1

Matrix in 3 days if you have HBO Max and a VPN

      • oh that's quick. I thought the Australian premier date is 26 December 2021?

no theater only release? Its going to be on HBO max before it hits the cinemas?

        • +1

22nd in US / HBO Max, also we're about six weeks behind US on most Sony properties (e.g. Ghostbusters) so will be on VOD in US before cinemas here

          • @Kieranu: i see.
so that means ghostbusters are on HBO max already?

      • Or just google - watch matrix resurrections online free

      • What's the best way to get HBO Max here in Australia?

    • +2

Matrix Resurrections 22nd on HBO Max, No Way Home I'd say late Feb / early March Disney+

  • +1

Pardon my ignorance, but does this mean streaming is free or a paid streaming like they sometimes do?

    • Free if you have Disney plus

      • +1

Also, the ‘plus’ part can be confusing I suppose if you’re unfamiliar with this streaming service. It’s not an ‘add-on’, their streaming service is just called ‘Disney+’ for no clear reason.

        • Many of the streaming services for existing IP are called +: AppleTV+, Paramount+, Disney+

          • @Kieranu: With Apple, it sort of makes sense as the name Apple TV was already taken by their media box, so the ‘plus’ part makes their streaming service an add on to their hardware (yes, I know you don’t have to use the Apple TV to use Apple TV+ but many Apple users do). I guess it’s hard finding a good name for your streaming service if you’re an existing production house: Foxtel struggled a lot as well with their Foxtel Now/Go naming.

            • @bozbargain: wait you can watch Apple+ on android phones?
Last time I tried didn't work properly not even on Windows PC

              • @michael9865: I don’t think I said that. I meant that Apple TV+ can be used without an Apple TV. But to answer your question, I believe when you’re on an Android or Windows device, you can only watch it via Chrome or Firefox.

  • +3

Just watched Encanto and couldn’t find the bargain

    • +1

That’s because you were 5 days too early.

  • +1

Not a bargain but still better than the drop ship landfill that often gets posted

  • +1

Will it be a premium offering on Disney Plus (ie have to pay extra to watch it) or will it be free for subscribers?

    • Free to those with the same political views of Walt Disney only.

  • +2

A Disney film is coming to Disney+

  • OMG….everyone has so much free time. What is wrong with gardening

    • Maybe a few Grannies find it fun but its bloody boring .
