It’s time for the obligatory comment regarding Officeworks’ Price Beat Guarantee!

If you are looking for Google Play gift cards, you are probably better off going to Officeworks and asking staff to apply their price beat guarantee (PBG), as it would mean you can purchase Google Play gift cards at a 14.5% discount!

You can ask Officeworks staff in-store or over-the-phone to beat Woolworths' price:

    • For in-store, you'll need to show the staff member a physical or digital copy of the weekly catalogue.

    • For over-the-phone, please tell the staff member to refer to the specific page of the current catalogue (unless they're already aware of this deal); you will be given the option to collect the gift cards from an Officeworks store, or have them mailed to you (and you may be charged postage fees, depending on your location).

However, you can only ask Officeworks to price beat Woolworths if Officeworks does not drop their prices for Google Play gift cards to match (or even beat) Woolworths' price.

Please also note there have also been recent cases of Officeworks staff (in-store or over the phone) denying price beat requests on gift card purchases for reasons not listed in the PBG policy. In my opinion, this should not be happening, because there is nothing on the PBG page to specifically exclude purchases of gift cards. However, I thought I’d include this here, as some Officeworks staff seem to be adamant on not honouring the PBG on gift card purchases at all. YMMV!

So I just tired using the PBG over the phone, did not work. They said that they need to physical see the gift card denomination that I wanted and the price that it end up costing.

I noted that it said "Offer available from 22/12/21 to 28/12/21 on all denominations of gift cards" so that it would be 10% off the $50 gift card which would be $45.

Again she said it was not clear that she would only be able to do the PBG for the $100 gift card but officeworks doesn't sell it…

I'll try in store and see what happens.

      • +2

Again she said it was not clear

Seriously, it says in the catalogue fine print on all denominations of gift cards and gift boxes pictured (and you pointed that out too!). I don't know how much clearer it has to be to satisfy the PBG requirements, as there's nothing in their PBG to say the denomination you want to purchase has to be actually shown in the catalogue. I'm entirely convinced some Officeworks staff have been directed to deny PBG requests on gift card purchases any way they can.

Good luck with your in-store trip!

        • Not OP but had the exact same argument with a cashier chick at Officeworks.

Just pointed out the it said all denominations and she was calling other people over and holding up the line…I said it's ok I'll wait so the others can go first…nuuuup

It was like watching the birth of a Karen.

Eventually a nice dude came over saw the ad, read the single sentence and said yeah no worries…

There's some bizarre attitude I've come across in several stores with young cashier girls now.
I copped a similar attitude a few months back trying to buy PlayStation credit from a JB hi-fi with a JB gift card like it was illegal somehow.

Why do they pretend like they've caught a criminal when it's all above board…

          • @Telios: I’ve had all my PBG requests honoured in the past, but it was rarely straightforward…

            • One time, I asked Officeworks to beat a Coles 20% off iTunes gift card deal, and showed them the catalogue. The staff stuffed up the competitor price and somehow determined that Coles’ discount was 15% off, not 20% off. That meant that when the PBG was applied, Officeworks’ price was still more expensive than Coles’ price. I was not happy.

            • Another time, I asked Officeworks to beat a different Coles 20% off iTunes gift card deal, and showed them the catalogue. The bloke at the checkout originally said no, because that deal required a coupon code, even though there was no evidence on the catalogue that the deal required any coupon code. (Wtf?)

            • Another time, I asked Officeworks to beat the regular for some batteries that were cheaper at Bunnings. The bloke serving me said that they could not price beat Bunnings, because the nearest Bunnings store was closed for the day and that price was therefore unobtainable.

I copped a similar attitude a few months back trying to buy PlayStation credit from a JB hi-fi with a JB gift card like it was illegal somehow.

I can understand why they resisted your request to use gift cards to pay for PlayStation gift cards. Clause 13 of the JB Hi-Fi’s gift card terms and conditions state:

            • Gift Cards are not redeemable for other Gift Cards.

Out of context, this clause sounds like you cannot use JB Hi-Fi gift cards to purchase any gift cards at JB Hi-Fi. However, Gift Cards is defined at the start of the terms and conditions as solely referring to JB Hi-Fi gift cards (and no other gift cards), so the correct interpretation is that you cannot use JB Hi-Fi gift cards to purchase other JB Hi-Fi gift cards. I suspect some staff don’t bother reading the full terms and conditions or misunderstand its intent, and that’s how you end up in arguments with staff as to whether JB Hi-Fi gift cards can be used to pay for PlayStation gift cards.

  • any deals on an apple gift cards going on now or in a few days?

  • Can you use the Woolworths rewards to pay for gift card at woolies? I know you can't at Coles.

    • +2

      No.

It’s against the Everyday Rewards terms and conditions to do that, plus when you scan a gift card at a checkout and go to the payment screen, there is no option to pay using Everyday Rewards Dollars, even if you have at least $10 in Everyday Rewards Dollars available for redemption.

There used to be a loophole where if you were purchasing a gift card that was earning Everyday Rewards points and your Everyday Rewards Dollars balance was at or about to go over the balance limit (currently $4000), the checkout would automatically redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars on the purchase of the gift card. However, it looks like Everyday Rewards recently changed their terms and conditions to stop this…

      • OK, because the rewards dollars and flybuys dollars are all my own stash :)

I guess, I need to pay grocery with rewards dollars, and then buy gift cards using normal credit card + 1 snickers…

Looks like no decent use for them just a few subs and games .
I want NFT's and cryptos or any method to monetize em :)

  • Can i use this for YT premium (student)?

  • It seems you can't pay for Binge, Spotify or Netflix subscriptions with Google Play balance. Is that right? What popular subscriptions can you use it for?
