Dropbox Now Offering 500 MB for Every Friend Invite

"You can now earn twice as much free space by inviting your friends!

For each friend that installs Dropbox, you’ll both get 500 MB of free space. You can earn up to 16 GB.

P.S. Already invited a bunch of people? Don't worry! You'll get credited for all of them."

Not sure if the friend just has to sign up to Dropbox or actually install their software.

I wonder if this stacks with the linking of edu email accounts. ie. if linked to an edu email, every referral gives 1 GB of space?

      Lots of people on the blog are asking about that. Having an upper limit of 32 gig for students and 1 gig per referral would be sweet. I think they are expecting Google Drive to be along shortly so they have to do something.

      The referral scheme in general has been around for ages, the amount offered was changed today.

      I do agree it should probably be moved to the forums though.

    For every friend you invite that installs Dropbox, you’ll both get 500 MB of free space. If you’ve got a free account, you can invite up to 32 people for a whopping total of 16 GB of extra space. Pro accounts now earn 1 GB per referral, for a total of 32 GB of extra space. Have you already invited a bunch of people? Don’t worry. Within a few days, you’ll get full credit for every referral that’s already been completed.

      How do we get "pro accounts"? Is this people who are paying? Failing then to see the need for 'free' space…

        Yes, it's for paying customers. The free space is on top of whatever paid space you have.

    This is for free accounts, I only have a free account and when I received this email, I gained an extra 250mb for everyone I have referred.

    This is only new, previously I only gained 250mb for every invite instead of the 500mb I gain now.

    Referals only work if they install the windows app and links it, on a NEW machine.
    So if you have a virtual machine handy that is probably a good idea. I'm not sure if system restore will work to 'refresh' your machine
