Need a Switch/Hub that accepts both USB-C & HDMI Inputs (from a Laptop and Desktop) and switch to 2 screens via USB-C

is this possible?

I've got a legion laptop and a dell G5 desktop and I want to connect/switch to my 2 screens - both screens have USB-C.

is there a device(hub/swith) that will accept both inputs (USB-C from laptop, HDMI from desktop) and switch either source at 2 screens via USB-C?

So, USB-C and HDMI In, a switch to choose which of these sources, and then USB-C and USB-C Out!

thanks for any suggestions.

  • what you want is a docking station or dock

something like these might fit your criteria, look at their specs

You're not going to get HDMI input to USB-C without going via a dedicated capture card, which requires a specific chipset and thus connected PC to route the captured video.

Unfortunately there's no simple way to achieve your goal; your closest option is a blanking signal from (say) your desktop that forces both screens to recheck for inputs and swap to your laptop or visa versa. Alternatively, use your laptop via something like Chrome Remote Desktop which has the benefits of not switching inputs and single mouse/keyboard, but also has the expected drawbacks of higher latency etc that can be an issue.
