I made a purchase on Amazon today, and the next thing I know is that I have automatically enrolled in Amazon Prime. Trying to delete membership seems impossible to me. Please help/ advise.

You forgot to deselect the check box.
They won't have. You'll have just missed one of their pesky little tick boxes they insist on putting everywhere.
Thanks all for the input.
I couldn't find a phone number, or a 'Chat' option.
I finally found how to cancel. It seems simple in hindsight. I clicked on Accounts, Your Prime Membership and 3 or 4 times I had to click delete membership.
I then did their survey, and gave them a flogging! They were going to start charging me after a 30 day free trial. It seems impossible to delete a payment method without replacing it with another.I think I accidentally started Prime but then I ended up keeping it. I like the free shipping on random low value groceries I buy.
Plus videos and games and music and a free twitch sub each month. Even if I don't use Amazon's main website each month. I still get great value out of it elsewhere
What games are there?
Snake
Amazon Prime video as well.
Yeah honestly 1 x Prime Charge per month is way way cheaper than any delivery cost.
Even at 1 grocery shop @amazon, you get your money worth spent on Prime back in terms of FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING
PEBCAK
You probably just clicked, yes ship this for free or something during checkout. If you haven't used the benefits you can get a refund. Even if you have used them Amazon CS can do a goodwill refund.
Cancel your Bank Card?? so you dont get debited ? Easiest thing to do
But if you want refund for that prime charge, you'll need to contact amazon about it or at least cancel your membership, and it should say something like CANCEL NOW, AND REFUND $6.99 (on per month plan)
Cancelling card is not the easiest way to avoid the debt. This is bad advice
There's a difference between Debt and Unauthorized charges, If OP thinks it was unauthorized (aka he doesnt remember signing up to prime) then cancelling card is a no brainer. (Most often any refund will come to the account associated with that card, (so that refund money is not lost always).
Although from my experience Amazon is not that misleading that it wont let user know about they will be signing up to prime paid membership. Amazon isn't a dodgy company. OP should be able to get refund pretty darn easily by just cancelling prime membership (unless he's actually used it's benefits like free delivery etc. in which case he really just shouldn't dam worry about it prime costs way than domestic shipping cost per item)
I'd give them a call.
