Light Laptop with Dedicated Graphics Card - Budget under $1,400

I need to find a cheap and powerful laptop for a friend. Preferably one with a dedicated GPU.

I was looking at this. For $1,600, but it's too expensive with the coupon code. The use is Valorant at above 100 fps, and his parents don't want something with "gaming" in it. Although Valorant runs on a potato, I'm worried that when moving to a different game, the laptop will struggle.

Any suggestions would be great.

You just have to exclude the ?offer_id=37664932&ref=gmc from Catch URL as that makes the system identify the URL as referral or affiliate.

And I don't think that Matebook X has either a Nvidia or Radeon GPU, it's just Intel graphics from Coffee Lake generation

  • oh, catch is spam …

    well, they've got
    Huawei Matebook X Pro (13.9" 3K , i7-8565U, 512GB SSD)
    for 1500

  • Are NVIDIA MX gpus any good. Specifically, mx450. Dell has that on sale right now

MX450's are better than the GTX 1050, but worse than the GTX 1650. Actual performance can vary, it depends on the VRAM / TGP and whether it's using gddr6 or something worse.

There are 4 versions of the MX450, and they all have the same name.

You can see the performance numbers on

If you don't mind refurbished, the same laptop as you linked in the OP can be had for $1239 from the Dell Outlet. It has Windows 10 installed but you can always upgrade to Windows 11 for free if you're so inclined.
Alternatively a better model with a 3050 Ti and 86WHr Battery (instead of 3050 and 56WHr battery) can be had for $1299
I'd say the latter is the better deal at only $60 more
