Only reason why I'd buy from DSE is the FF, I mean, 1k+ points isn't exactly nothing…
Same reason. But theres a little in me knowing my 100K points racked up over the last year will be worthless soon.
There's an expiry date on points?
No, no expiry date. I'm talking about the state of the company. It's getting worse.
Right on cue … just after Myer starting their "sale" http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/67149
DSE must be carrying a lot of baggage.
They scrapped their 14 day no hassles return thing.
Then there was that "sale" they had the other day (for the staff).
No wonder Woolworths wants to cut them loose.
Shame really. Despite their somewhat middle of the road reputation, I've picked up some good bargains through DSE over the last few years, and would rather see them stay in the market. Biggest issue I have with them is the majority of retail staff seem to be lacking in tech know how.
not only that but their customer service is poor to say the least. Go to a store (usually more staff than customers) and staff are just standing around the counter. Good luck trying to get assistance at the "rebranded" Dick Smith.
Any Apple store will also price match if the DSE 'sale' is brought to their attention. Handy if DSE don't have a particular item you're looking for. Unlike HN or JB, Apple won't start ringing around to see if a competitor actually has any stock to sell.
first rules of ozbargains. cheapest price is the best price
I agree with abc. Sometimes principles are worth more than a little savings. If anybody is just a whore to the price, no wonder DS did what they did and they will do it again as people still buy from them. Refusing to buy from them is the only power we have and we should use it.
I tried to get my local store (Robina) to match DSE on a MBP and they refused unless I bought Applecare.
That's bs, get someone else I've matched jb at robina. Just complain, ask their name so you can complain officialy and they will cave. Works at almost any store btw
Stock may be limited due to staff sales.
Unless there's enough meat for them to flog them off eBay/Gumtree then nah don't think so.
LOL at DSE front page. Dick's One Day Quicky.
In the T&C's, it says excludes AppleCare, iPad and built to order.
What about Apple TV?
Apple TV is $88, but looks like the old version based on the Specs (720p playback). Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if it just hasn't been updated.
I might try getting an Apple store to match the price at lunch. You never know, they might not even check the version.
$88 is the old version.
Hmm, I'm sure that when I clicked the 10% sale banner earlier it had the Apple TV listed (the old version at $88 only though), which was why I thought it was part of the sale. Not doing it now in any case. And still not all the items that appear when you click the sale banner are part of the sale anyway, which seems a bit deceptive.
The new one is listed as "v3" here: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GM1004/apple-tv-v3-md199x-a
Still $109…
Just sent them an email asking why this isn't on sale.
Update : Your request has been assigned an ID of [dse.co.nz #7xxxxx].
Update 2…
DSE > Unfortunately the 10% off Apple Computers only covers desktops and
laptops. The associated accessories and other Apple products including
Apple TV & Ipad are not included in the current sale. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Me > Hi XXX. It is most likely not you personally but DSE should really make this clear by simply stating '10% off all Apple Computers and Laptops' seeing as these are the only Apple products actually for sale. Putting 'Apple iPad and AppleCare excluded' lends to the assumption all other Apple items are on sale i.e. Apple TV, iPods, etc. which you have stated are not.
Okay there are arguments both ways, but in reality no one would consider ATV or ipods to be "Computers" and that is what they are advertising as on sale.
I'm still waiting for someone to beat BigW on the New iPad prices.
Good Guys do the new iPad 16GB for $489 cash.
Does 'cash' include EFTPOS or only cold hard cash?
Normally I'd positive this, but as DSE is dead to me, I'm staying neutral. Price match this at Apple Store or JB instead people.
Without this post you wouldn't know about this to be able to get others to price match. I'm giving my vote.
Fair enough, but don't forget you can get 10% off pretty much any day of the week by just asking.
That's true!
It depends on how pedantic you are - IIRC JB charges a surcharge for using Amex but DSE doesn't and DSE got this Everyday Reward thing that turns into QFF. If you add it up, it's actually slightly cheaper than JB.
And there's something about hipsters working at JB HiFi, giving the most pleasant customer experience ever!
When is new Macbook air coming? I am still waiting for that one.
Not until June at the earliest IIRC, "problem" with supply for low voltage CPUs from Intel.
My last experience.
Ordered 900$ Mac Mini bonus iPod Touch. Ipod Touch came first, sold it on eBay almost instantly. Then DSE told me that they don't have stock and I have to return the iPod touch or pay full price.
Speak to another guy, keep the iPod touch for $100 or get the $1100 Mac Mini for extra $100. I went for the Mac Mini. At the end it's 25% off but I'm spending $100 more. So a saving but not a saving :)
So why does anyone try and do business with a company that is incapable of telling the truth?
The next part of the games sale - for DSE staff only of course - starts when officially for example?
Answer - make up a date and enter online somewhere………….
Whats in it?
Answer - make up something and enter online somewhere………….
Is their stock?
Answer - make up whatever you like and enter online somewhere………….
what time does it start?
Answer - make up a time and enter online somewhere………….
Applies to everything DSE staff agree to sell you, because DSE management let them do what they like in the stores run by DSE staff - subsidised financially by the food prices we have to pay at Woolworths.
I'm still waiting for a reply to my email as to why DSE cancelled my order for the 3 Month Xbox Live Gold cards?
Staff wanted them - do you expect them to say that in writing really?
Some stuff is going to reappear magically when the 2nd part of the sale starts because it never really left the warehouse/stock listing.
Massive coverup has started because affects the price Woolies could get for DSE.
On Monday people were told these were all in gone in store I was at - 20 minutes later a big guy came in and 1 magically reappeared for him from out back - after 11.00am that….
Get your facts right mate.
I don't even know why you are complaining when the sale was never intended for the public in the first place. The fact that the sale was ORIGINALLY intended for staff only was the reason why staff had first dibs.
Go concern yourself with different matters and quit bashing DSE.
IT'S A TRAP
Stores that are closing are currently having 10-30% sale on lots of stuff. Check them out. I managed to find a couple of $299 Ltd Ed. MW3 Xbox 360 consoles today.
I see you're from Melbourne. Which store did you get that MW3 console from?
If you want one, ring and head to Chady or Southland SC asap.
Excellent, I'm right near Chaddy. Much appreciated.
my friend got one of those on monday in the mad dash, he didnt put it down the whole time
Wondering if I should just get a Mac Mini now or wait till the new one in roughly 100 or so days.
Isn't this 10% Apple stuff pretty regular for most electronic retailers?
Will they actually have any stock when you turn up for the sale in the morning, or will it all be hidden out back? :P
I think I'm done with DSE.
what sales that? link please to official source?
It was cool to work for DSE before Monday.
Now it is not only not cool working there, it also sucks telling friend you shop there.
"You are a DICK to shop there!" My friend actualy told me that…
I brought a lot of good stuff from them (My first small DSE TV $299 10 years ago to my New Sony 46" EX520 at $777 recently) mostly due to 14days no question ask return. And I only used that return once. Now even this is gone.
With all the change and all these bad publicity it would take months for the brand to be recovered. It is hard to earn back a lost trust.
Then again, the demographic that they've lost is the uber-cheapskate gamers. Not sure that they're crying about that, really, especially if they're planning on quitting the gaming business.
I think the mac book with ivy will be delayed, apperntly heat issues because it runs very hot
Actually, they are more efficient and run cooler unless overclocked. The delay is apparently due to big vendors; they are having trouble moving Sandy mobile processors.
isnt dse auto negative? o.o
the original thread was for a forum that was hosting the "leaked" price list. Therefore the forums gets the ban, not DSE.
Same applies to the guy who posted the deal, he gets a ban from posting, even though everyone was annoyed at the event rather than him
For all those who are choosing DSE because of Amex and QFF's (i.e. "extras"), have you tried Myer and their loyalty ($1,000 spend = $20 gift card)?
I only use Myer for clothes during sales. For everything else they are a rip-off.
Many actual frequent flyers (as in people who actually redeem their points for flights and not vouchers) value their points at a lot more than the Myer rate of return of 2%.
I think most "actual" frequent flyers care about their status a lot more than the actual FF points they're earning. Got into the mix myself and trying to get and maintain PS whilst a uni student and SG once I get a job….
Awesome. Hurry up new Mac mini. Glad to see DSE moving away from people's hated list but it's baby steps.
When does the new mac mini come ?
Was wondering when they gonna do that $25 off on keyboard/magicpad/mouse again.
how can we fix our reputation after that huge sale debacle….i know, we'll give them 10% off apple!!
I think Saturday will be 25% off notebooks..
here it comes again. However, Apple is going to announce new Mac book pro later this month (I guess after the sale finish) will skip this one.
I'm holding off until Ivy Bridge arrives, then the DSE 10%.
