eBay Seller Says Item Posted but Hasn't Provided Tracking

I bought and paid for a used watch on Monday night. I haven’t bought anything from a private seller on eBay for a while.

Seller asked if delivery address was OK as it was Ezymart (a ParcelPoint collection location). I told him it’s fine and he said he’d post the item on Tuesday.

No “posted” status update on Tuesday all day. I messaged seller and he said that item was shipped to address as listed.

I then asked for tracking number and no response. He also never updated the status to posted. He’s using the eBay standard shipping method and I thought eBay lets sellers print the shipping label and updates the status with tracking information automatically?

Should I be concerned and is this a sign of a dodgy seller? He has 100% feedback over last 6 months if that means anything.

Wait a week or two and if nothing turns up, lodge an item not delivered claim. The seller will either then provide tracking or you'll get a refund. Note there will probably be delays because of Christmas, probably the seller will give you a tracking number after you lodge your dispute and it'll arrive in January.

    • Thanks for the reply. Was hoping to get it before Xmas :/

I wouldn't be concerned. Some just get money and post, then consider it done.

    • So the eBay automatically generated shipping label and tracking aren’t a thing?

Maybe I'm out of date, but would be surprised if a seller can't just walk to the post office and post it themselves rather than using some eBay system.

You are not out of date.

You do not need to use the eBay printed label.

Updating the 'item sent' and 'enter tracking details' are completely voluntary.

Not everyone has a printer. It's entirely possible that they just wrote out the address by hand.

You need to check WHEN his last feedback was..

    • and how many left feedback

Only worry if it doesn't arrive.

I think it matters on the cost of the watch how worried you should be.

  • he said he’d post the item on Tuesday.

OP posts concern less than 24 hours later

    • My concern isn't about the time for it to be posted, it's the fact that I asked the seller for a tracking number and I didn't get a response…

I never provide the tracking number. I keep it for myself to prove delivery to all you ebay scammers out there…

  • I've noticed this happening with sellers who are actually overseas, but say the item from the listing is located in Australia. You can tell they're overseas when the item location says things like "Australia, Australia", "QLD, Australia", or "NT, Australia". You purchase, the seller marks the package as shipped, then holds off on providing the tracking number until their forwarder here in Aus puts an AusPost label on the package. The seller then provides the Australian tracking number.
