Powerline Adapter D-Link DHP-600AV Stuck at 100mbps / Gigabit Switch (TPSG-105)

Hi OzBargain Community,

I'm hoping someone really savvy can help. I have signed up for Superfast internet with iiNet 200Mbps typical speeds, but when I run it through my Powerline Adapter (D-Link) either directly to the PC or even through a Gigabit Switch (TPSG-105), I can't get it to go beyond 80-100Mbps, but if I use WiFi it goes to a minimum of 200Mbps.

Anyone here know what I might be doing wrong, I'd rather have it hard connected then WiFI if it can get solved, but if not I might have to just live with WiFI. I just think it will be more stable if it's hard wired via the Powerline Adapter.

I followed the tutorial on YouTube about change the speed settings fro the Gigabit Switch but still the same result 80-100Mbps.

Thank you so much in advance for any guidance.

Cheers

Powerline adapters are notoriously inconsistent especially since it depends on the cabling distance and other items plugged into the circuit that will affect the signal. Not much you can do.

If you are using a decent wifi adapter, then you may actually find it both faster and more reliable. Especially since if you're at a desktop, you won't have any variations moving around the house like you get with your phone or laptop.

    • Thank you

  • It is probably the cabling. I use a powerline myself and it usually only runs at a fraction of the advertised speed. Powerline is useful for stable connection rather than speed.

I’ve tried multiple kits, currently using the TP Link PA9020P and almost receiving my full speed.
      113/4 via powerline, 115/5 direct

Most likely old wiring in your case

What is your powerline adapter model?

They come in different speed, which also depends on power circuit line quality.

Edit: nevermind I missed the model in title. Yeah strange. It might just be interence on the power circuit limiting the speed.

I'm not an expert (i've used a TP-link powerline adapter around 6 years ago) but the specifications on the Dlink site seem to indicate it will only set the data rate to either 100 or 1000mbps on the powerline adapter.

    Data Rate
    • Ethernet: 10/100/1000 Mbps (auto negotiation)
    • PowerLine: Up to 600 Mbps (PHY rate)

TP Link had a program that you could download that would show the syncing speed of the connection. Try downloading the DHP utility and see if it gives any stats on the connection quality. I think this should be the link: http://files.dlink.com.au/products/DHP-306AV/REV_A/Software/…
