    an auxiliary red light

This is a great feature, so you don't blind other people.

It's more handy for no attracting mossies :)

Also keeps your night vision better is you are doing some astronomy. You can still see the faint stars.

A high cri LED with a good low mode is much better than red light for night vision. However red light is great for not blinding others or preventing attracting bugs.

  • Great, grabbed one. Many thanks.

Already have a Nitecore and love it, but wish it had USB-C since basically nothing of mine still has micro usb.

  • Hey guys it’s still in stock at lite shop, I bought a few from them just now. Quite a lot of stock and good prices

    • The Klarus W1 looks fancy anyone has one of those? It’s only 35

Damn, that was a saving of 110 bottles/cans. (I've noticed people using headlamps to rummage through other people's recycling bins on collection night.)

  • Do these Nitecore lights have replaceable batteries?

    • Seriously doubt it.

      • Me too, which sad considering the battery will probably die long before the LED

  • for someone new to ultralight hiking, how high on your list of must have gear would this place? i.e. better to have a heavier/standard lamp and work towards something like this later down the track?

    • +1

I'd concentrate and lightening your heavier gear first e.g., tent, backpack, sleeping bag / quilt, mat and cooking gear. A cheap energizer headtorch is only about 100 g or so, so if you used this Nitecore then for your whole pack weight you are not saving all that much.

I've been slowly transitioning to ultralight gear but it can be expensive. I have a list of things that I want and whenever I see them for a good price then that's when I buy. Buying from the US is often the way to save money. I just bought a 500 g full size mat for $100.

The Liteshop is selling the NU25 for $51.91 (including postage) which is still a great price if you are still interested.

thanks for the tips, yeah I just got a ether light mat as my first purchase, but agree better to focus on things like backpack, sleeping bag etc well before worrying about lights by the sound of it, thanks!

    • My old tent was 3.2kgs, now I hike with a 1.2kg tent. Cost me a bit, but man 2kgs off one item, amazing!
