Generally reverse auctions are not bargains but according to a member on Australian Frequent Flyer he was able to get some cheap flights leaving NZ. It's cheap enough to fly to NZ from the east coast but snagging a flight to Honolulu for $649 NZD RT ($512 AUD) is fantastic.
Last flight
Was to Honolulu in Feb 2012
Total Cost for 2 people $1297 (Did I forget to mention that is in NZ$)
and AUD$450.00 in flight to NZ from Sydney
You just have to look out for cheap tickets to NZ on Virgin and other airline when planning to book these flights because sometimes they can work out to be more expensive
Unless you want Two Holidays in One
You do need to remember that it's every Tuesday and and have to agree to the dates/times set in the auction. Still it's a good opportunity to get cheap(er) tickets.
Also made a post to AFF on this
essentially these auctions (at least the current one) has very restricted dates on leaving and returning, so it then limits your ability to get cheap fares to and from NZ. And long haul flights would be the best deal if the auction price is right. Problem is you bid and then have to try and get time off for work , and is the length of stay worth it. eg You need to stay in Hong Kong for exactly 6 days
