Suncorp Clear Options Platinum Credit Card: 130,000 Bonus Points after $3,000 Spend within 90 Days of Approval, $129 Annual Fee

1980

$511 of profit after meeting spend requirements

The details:
130,000 points
$129 p.a. annual fee
$6,000 min limit
1.25 points per dollar
Spend $3,000 in 90 days
New customers (no Suncorp credit card in the past 12 months)
Offer Expires 31/08/22

Suncorp has increased the bonus from 100k to 130k but has removed the half price first year annual fee. However, you actually end up with a bigger profit (from $426 to $511) because it's easier to cash out your points fully for woolies gift cards.

If redeeming for gift cards:
$500 x 1, $100 x 1, $20 x 2 in Woolworths gift cards, $640 total, with 250 points remaining.
$500 x 1, $100 x 1 in Coles gift cards, $600 total, with 8,650 points remaining.

Will be slightly less profit if you redeem for transaction credit.

Nope had 3 cards backed by Citigroup this year and it was fine.

      • awesome, good to know

  • Would converting to Virgin velocity points be the best use of the points? Mainly interested in FF programs rather than gift cards.

    • +1

If you're chasing Virgin points, sure. I'm going for Krisflyer but it all depends on your travel needs.

Just had a missed call from 0280272000 - PSA, it appears to be a Citi/Suncorp number so probably a call you want to answer if you applied for this card.

    • I called them back, it sure is Suncorp clarifying what I claimed on my application

  • $129 for 65k VFF doesn't sound like a great deal to me.

    • +1

nobody coverts the reward points to frequent flyer points. meant for gift cards

  • im awaiting for them to bring back the no annual fee promo for family and friends but dont think they will do it ever do it again anytime soon.

  • +4

Get to the end of the process, get (very quickly) "Sorry, we can not process your request at the moment. Please try again later." tried this morning and 8 hours later still getting the same problem.

    Anyone else getting this?

    • +1

Same. Tried multiple times through safari and edge. Weird?

    • I had this when I went through my iphone. Did it via my android tablet and got through.

      • Have tried on PC too in Edge and Chrome. Bizarre.

        • Tried again but this time applied for myself (not my wife) and it worked. :S Bizarre.

    • Same issue with me, tried a few times on mobile and laptop, different browsers. Same error.

      • tried with a mac, windows, and different browsers and all the same result

        • Turned out to be an issue with their own verification system that they have to fix up manually. Had to go to the bank physically! Quite a bumpy application process…

    • Had the same, I ended applying over the phone 131155, for the first time for a credit card :)

  • who backs them? is it suncorp directly or citibnank

  • This one is a no brainer. Free money. Thanks OP

  • +2

I was missing a statement, they called so I called them back & they offered me an additional 5000 bonus points if i uploaded the documents I needed. Just as an FYI :)

  • Approved after one day and no call needed. Very speedy!

    • Any idea how long it take for the card details to arrive? (so ready for shopping)

      • I’ll let you know once it arrives!

  • +1

Wow that was the fastest and easiest card application I’ve ever done. Applied this morning at 10:33am with licence, Medicare card, and my latest payslip, and just received the approved email 5:18pm on the same day.

    • +1

The approval team must have speed up the process to pumpup their KPIs.

  • Has anyone received their card yet? Keen to know how many days after approval you can expect your card.

    • +1 me too. Just got email confirmation. Need it by 7th January to pay for Rego + Suncorp car insurance. PS: Assuming paying for my Suncorp Insurance would qualify towards the 3k spend?? Should be?

    • +1

2-3 days? Approved Monday and got the card today.

  • cheers one more for the year, point hacking ramping up, merry christmas!

  • +3

Got my card. Not impressed with the activation process. Silly to direct new customers to a registration page where they have to enter a 'TAC'. When I rang them, there was the option to activate via a once-off SMS code but that didn't work for some reason: 'we're redirecting you to our customer service team'. Have been on hold now for half an hour.

    • I've had a very similar (and unpleasant) experience. I'm on hold for round 2 trying to get the card activated and my internet banking set up.

      • The lady I spoke to asked me a few questions to identify me, including what my customer ID was (never had a Suncorp product before) and then also what my total balance was with them across all my accounts (zero). She then said, ‘unfortunately you failed to ID yourself successfully so you should visit a branch’. When I asked what she meant with the failed ID check she hang up on me. I forgot now, did we have to setup a passcode or security question when applying for the card?

        • Yikes! That's not ideal… We definitely had to indicate some sort of verbal password during sign-up. I'd forgot mine, but it wasn't an issue.

I sorted everything out this morning, but it took 2x 30 minute calls to get there. I was expecting a much better experience from Suncorp. I don't think I'll be a long-term customer.

    • +1

Same, terrible activation experience! It was like banking 15 years ago. Seems like Suncorp and Citibank haven’t worked well together on it product. They bounced me between two departments to set up internet banking. Over an hour latter no IB. Seems like you can’t have internet banking when a credit card is your only product.

      • I got it working at the end after calling them again. They claimed they didn’t have an email address from me on file so I needed to provide them with one (wrong, they used my email address already to communicate about the status of my application) and they had to trigger an sms for me with a temporary access code to get started. Could be that the email address you provide to apply for a card is only used by that team (Citi?) whereas Internet banking use a different source of customer information?

        • +2

Same experience. No email address on file!

How can that be when I used one to create the application? 🤣

  • +1

Applied on Sat 18th and approved Tues 21st. Hope the card arrives soon!

    • Should get it by Friday I think if you’re in Sydney.

  • So is the activation process would be easier if you are an existing customer of Suncorp? Want to apply this for my partner but she not a customer of Suncorp.

    • Just make sure your name is exactly the same on the credit card application. I didn't have my middle name on my debit card account. Now I have to visit a branch and show ID to get it sorted out. Nearest one is 20km away.

      • same here :(

  • Anyone knows if I can make a Balance Transfer from HSBC? I can't see HSBC listed but can see other banks during the application.

  • Will be slightly less profit if you redeem for transaction credit.

What will be the profit if redeeming for transaction credit?

  • Why would we need upload medicare and driver licence? Aren't they already do online check already?

Except with HSBC that need screenshot of licence (plus the stupid photo recognition), i've never seen other banks (WP, St George, NAB, ANZ etc) required we have to upload these information.

How long after reaching your $3k spend will they credit the points? Will they show up in the app or do you have to use the website to track them?

  • Got the approval confirmation email yesterday.
Then found there are 2 credit enquiries for this. Who should i raise to fix this? Citibank or Suncorp?

    • In Credit Savvy, I only have one enquiry listed (Citigroup).

    • I got 2 too was meaning to reach out to them.

      • Did you reach out to them? To Suncorp?

        • No. I forgot. I shall do that today. Thanks for reminding.

          • +1

@lostinsydney: I've sent a secured email to Suncorp and they said they have raised a request for correction on the credit report. Need to wait 30 days for outcome.

            • @timhn: same - i got an update

We wish to advise we have raised a request for correction on your credit report and you will be notified of the outcome within 30 days.

  • Does anyone know the conversion rate of 130k points to cashback credit (i.e., statement credit)?

  • anyone receive bonus points yet?

    • you may have to wait 3 months sometimes or usually 2 statements

    • No, managed to spend $3k within the first statement period but my first statement shows no sign of bonus points.

    • Still waiting, almost at 90 days should be this week… Slowest of any card by far.

  • How do I activate the card online?

There is no "Credit Card Services" option to do this (according to the instructions).

Under the menu "Manage Accounts And Cards", i can see my credit card is listed there, but can't do anything. Next to the card number is just a line saying "To manage your Credit card go to the Credit Card Services Link on the My Accounts page". But no such option under My Accounts!!!

    • +1

      Ok answer my own question.

You're required to add the card to your Suncorp account to be able to access to the Credit Card Services, even though the card already visible under your profile!!!

      What a confusing process.

  • Anyone know if you can have two Citibank cards at the same time?

    • +1

I've got three now. Suncorp, Coles and Citi.

      • Me too!

  • +1

My Bankwest credit card credits me annually 75,000 points for meeting minimum spend so it’s a constant yearly bonus just for making it my main card. Does Suncorp offer any bonuses or incentives on a yearly basis like Bankwest does?

    • Yearly bonus? couldn't find on bankwest website. Which credit card is that ?

      • +1

        https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/credit-cards#content-in…

Annual Bonus points are only available to new customers who apply for a Bankwest More Mastercard on or after 15 May 2017 and meet minimum spend requirements in any Year from Card Account opening. Eligible customers will earn: 19,500 Points if your Card is a Classic Card and you spend a minimum of $24,000 on Eligible Purchases in that Year; 75,000 Points if your Card is a Platinum Card and you spend a minimum of $48,000 on Eligible Purchases in that Year; and 115,000 Points if your Card is a World Card and you spend a minimum of $84,000 on Eligible Purchases in that Year

        • Surely a regular person doesn’t have nearly 1k in expenses a week right? Maybe running a small business or something perhaps

          • @Chickenleg: I easily spend 48k a year. According to the Bankwest rewards site I’ve spent $105k this year. Don’t ask me how. Im just a regular person with an average income. I may need to ease up on buying things on Ozbargain :)

            • @Jamesk811:

According to the Bankwest rewards site I’ve spent $105k this year.

Meaning that's how much you've put onto your credit card this financial year? Or do you mean 2021? And it's paid off and not in debt? Agree to disagree, but if you earn something substantially over 105k a year and put 105k on your card in 7 or even 13 months, you are definitely not "average income".

              • @Chickenleg:

                1. It’s a shared credit card with my wife, we are both average income earners.
        • Hrm, I wouldn't call it an incentive to get 75K bonus points if i must spend such enormous amount of money.

  • Got rejected and not sure why. I have a very good credit score, always paying my credit cards/loans on time. I even previously applied for a credit card with Citibank and Kogan but was approved. Not sure why I got rejected this time

  • +2

I've been approved and received my card today… have been on hold for more than 30mins now to try and register for internet banking. Seems impossible to do this without calling and speaking to them… Ridiculous

  • I think you can only get one $20 gift card.

    $500 - 104,200 points
    $100 - 20,900 points
    $20 - 4,200 points

    • +1

Yep you are right for the flat 130,000 points. I factored in that if you spend the $3000 to meet the spend requirements, you will end up with 130,000 points + 3000 * 1.25 (points per dollar spent) = 133,750 points.

The extra 3,750 points means you can get the extra $20 gift card with only with 250 points remaining unused.

      • +1

Ah I see. Thanks for explaining this.

  • So have spent the $3,000+ and have paid the statement a week ago. Wonder how long until they deliver? I did you $1,000 on gift cards from the Suncrop benefits tab, hopefully this is counted too. Anyone know?

  • I was charged a international transaction fee for a booking.com transaction. May need to call them to check or have booking.com use a different card. Never had any fee for booking.com on other credit cards.

  • Just got approved for this card. After trawling through the comments, it seems like it's in my best interest to open up an everyday account to "streamline" access to internet banking?

Definitely don't want to be on hold for 30mins just to give the wrong answer for phone verification and hung up on.

    • I'm waiting for my card to arrive in the post, but I have a Suncorp everyday account. On internet banking, I can still see an option to "activate card" by putting in the card number and I can see the card account details in my Suncorp online banking.

I'm hoping activation is pretty easy, but will update if I run into any issues.

      • Suncorp must've eased off the pedal for churning the cards out since Dec. I received email notification saying my card was on it's way on Monday morning (24th), still no card by COB Friday (28th).

In the meantime, I also opened an everyday account to streamline internet banking. Online ID verification didn't work for me (with all 3 options) so I lodged verification at the post office on Monday too. IB portal is still waiting for me to confirm my identity.

Even called Suncorp credit card dept to see if they could give me the details of the card to activate & use early - denied. I was on hold for 45mins.

        • It took 5 business days for me to get my card. Received confirmation last Wednesday, email sent on Thursday saying card on it's way(+1 public holiday Australia day) so might be more of an auspost delay too. I'm in Sydney.

I was able to setup card very smoothly on internet banking.

  • The following steps worked for me when setting up internet banking:

    1) Call up Suncorp to activate your card
    2) Phone activation did not work, so had to be transferred to customer service agent on the same call (hardly 2 mins wait time)
    3) Agent activated the card within a few seconds
    4) I asked to activate internet banking, the agent transferred me to another IB agent (wait time was about 20 mins)
    5) IB agent asked for my verbal password - this happened to be the one I set up when applying for the card
    6) IB agent sent me a Telephone Access Code (TAC) via sms
    7) Using the TAC and credit card number, I registered for Internet banking and successfully logged in (card details were automatically linked to my IB profile)
    8) I also received an automated email with my Suncorp Customer Id

Overall process took about 30 mins.

    Hope that helps!

    • Wow!!!

Another way is signup for a Everyday Options transaction account and get Internet Banking with Suncorp and then apply for this credit card. Activate the card in your IB.

  • How long do the points take to credit?

    • +1

Too long. I’ve just sent Suncorp a secure message chasing mine up.

      • Dang was hoping the points credit soon so I can transfer them to Krisflyer. Guess that's not happening.

    • +1

Got the 1st statement on 04/02. Just log into IB and can see the bonus points there. +133K points.

Claimed WoW gift cards and now waiting for them to arrived before close this CC.

      • Nice, my statement was 03/02 and no bonus points yet.

        • When did you both hit your minimum spends?

          • @eastmeetswests: My 1st statement was on 12th Jan, spent more then the min spend (approx 4k+)
Really hope my 2nd statement comes with Bonus points as I really need these points before Kris Gold status offer expires on 28th Feb.

          • @eastmeetswests: Hit minimum spending on 25/01. Then i just locked the card and wait for the statement.

          • @eastmeetswests: After transactions cleared I think it was about the 28th.
