How Do You Guys Feel about The Activision Blizzard Situation?

Everything that's happened since the Activision Blizzard lawsuit went public

Activision has been thrown into turmoil in recent months by multiple regulatory investigations into alleged sexual assaults and mistreatment of female employees dating back years, also with news of Xbox, Sony and even Nintendo condemning the actions done by the company.

I wonder what you guys think of this whole situation?

    How bored are you today?

    • +4

Quite a bit. Not much you can do in hospital so…

  • +4

I stopped buying games from them a while ago. They just that hostile in general.

    • -2

Yeah my interest in their games definitely waned following their mess over Hong Kong independence.

A bit later they did their Black Lives Matter campaign (like so many corporates) and the question raised, right, so just certain black lives matter?

  • +3

I don't see why anyone would care… They have been (fropanity) their player base for years and no one has done anything about that.

  • +1

Don’t care, what I do care about is the direction they have taken with all their products and quality of recent releases

  • +5

It's no coincidence that all the major game studios that have been employing blue-haired women en masse lately have been shitting out awful games and have been embroiled in cringe lawsuits.

    • -2

      needs more +++++

diversity hire women that don't understand their job and realise that they are being over paid for something they know nothing about + some computer geek looks at them funny = discrimination & court case for $$$'s and social credit rankings

now, employers are allowed to ask if anyone has ever lodged a workcover claim against a previous employer (and can fire an employee for not disclosing), this should be the same for allegations of misconduct "have you ever accused a co-worker of doing something inappropriate, how many times, what was the result"

Not really suprised, almost all virtue signalling companies are full of rubbish. If anything im just suprised these types of scandles arent more common. However they usually are well covered up and settled well before anything hits the public eye.

Is it stopping me from buy games from Blizzard Activision yes and No

YES i am not buying games from them

NO. they havent come up with anything good for a long time so i have no need to buy anything from them last good game they had was Star Craft 2. Might get DA2 remake if it is on sale for 20

I'll hit you with this question have you watched Star wars, Any of the Marvel movies, or anything Disney becuz the been abusing child/ slave Labor in 3rd world countries for decades and no one cares.

Dont care, just release d4 already and let the lawyers handle the rest.

Don't see Blizzard recovering from this, they can't seem to change either. I'm expecting the rumour that Activision will dissolve Blizzard to come true once they settle the legal stuff.
The employee demands are a bit woke for my taste. Hiring based on gender, ethnicity and sexuality. Publication of salary and promotion based on gender and ethnicity.
I'd still play the ones I own now (overwatch and diablo 3) but no reason to buy future games.

    • Hiring based on gender, ethnicity and sexuality. Publication of salary and promotion based on gender and ethnicity.

Is it mutually exclusive or do you have to fall into the overlapping part of the Venn diagram?

Or is it kind of like wheel of the fortune where the slices repeat and you have to keep on spinning until you get the answer you want?

Wondering if ethnicity is based on global population or is it evenly weighted.

The employee demands are a bit woke for my taste. Hiring based on gender, ethnicity and sexuality. Publication of salary and promotion based on gender and ethnicity.

Isn't this exactly what they don't want? this is sexism and racism if you're hiring females because they are females, or hiring someone because of their ethnicity.

The adoption of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and promotion policies designed to improve representation among employees at all levels, agreed upon by employees in a company-wide Diversity, Equity & Inclusion organization. Current practices have led to women, in particular women of color and transgender women, nonbinary people, and other marginalized groups that are vulnerable to gender discrimination not being hired fairly for new roles when compared to men.

Well yeah, they word it pretty well but it just sounds like "too much men, hire more women, trans or nonbinary". Ironically Jean Oneal came on as co-leader and she resigned after 3 months because she felt tokenized, marginalised and discriminated against. She was also paid less than her co-leader, Mike Ybarra.

        • +1

          Ah right.

Yeah you can't fix a problem like this just by hiring those groups because the reason you didn't hire them originally - the (profanity) that work there - still work there. So when a trans person starts, for example, they'll be discriminated against and leave.

I don't care about how they treat their female staff.

I buy their products, not their morals or values. If their games remain of good quality I will buy and play.

    • +8

"I don't care how this restaurant doesn't pay their staff properly. The food is good, I'll come back"

"I don't care that a child was forced to work 20 hours a day to make this t-shirt, it's of good quality and cheap, I'll come back"

"I don't care that this is a blood diamond where people were murdered, it's shiny and I like it"

You are part of the problem. By buying their stuff, you are validating and accepting their morals and values, you cannot disconnect the two and to try to do so is just ignorant on your part.

      • +3

Thank you for highlighting another 3 great examples.

I am not validating anything other than their product is of the right quality at the right price.

Life is going to get incredibly complicated when you have to review a dossier on each individual or company you interact with.

        • +1

I don't disagree, but in this instance you have the evidence given to you, yet choose to ignore it.

Just like if you continue to buy Nestle products knowing full well what they do. You can't plead ignorance.

  • If it offends you —boycott them.
If you don't care —buy their products if you can and want to.

…it's that simple. This is (mostly) an open-market, and corporations bare consequences (both positive and negative) for their products, actions, and values.

Definitely sounds like the culture at the company has gone downhill over whatever the time period is.

    Blizzard sucks these days anyway.

  • +4

Ohh. The good old days when businesses could hire anyone to make money.

Now they spend more money on PC and PR than making money.

  • +1

Make good games and people will buy them. I don’t need or want to know if an employee/s is accused of wrong doings.

  • as long as they fix the problem with Diablo 2, I really don't care.

  • +3

I miss the days when companies were expected to make games.

Also, don't hire people that worship victimhood and be shocked when they treat their employment as just another venue for drama.

  • Blizzard in the past actively encouraged me to tea bag my opponents in World of Warcraft 😁

  • +2

damn, hit my neg voting cap already on this thread

  • They ruined Crash and never really been a fan of COD. So i don't really buy their games

  • They're pretty crap, ethics aside their latest releases have been disappointing.

But when ethics are considered they're particularly egregious, especially given the upper management threw most of the female mid management under the bus.

They need a cleanout and to focus back on making quality games

  • The world could boycott them
then the very developers who we should all be supporting will be unemployed.

So yeah, ill continue buying their games
