Dewalt Trade-in/Trade-up: $100 off Select Dewalt Tools When Trading in a Cordless Tool Skin @ Bunnings and Other Retailers

170

It's back! Was in Bunnings yesterday and there was a Dewalt stand advertising this. They told me I could trade in any old cordless skin (guess they don't want to have to dispose of the battery) for a select number of new skins (not a lot of choice unfortunately).

So I traded in an old cordless drill (worth $0) that I was about to chuck out (it ran on Nicads so tells you how old it was).

EDIT: I forgot to mention that you also get your 5% powerpass discount off the price of the tool (before the trade in discount kicks in)

  • This is an awesome deal.

  • Dang wish I knew about this ten days ago haha

This might be the incentive I was looking for to buy the BRUSHLESS OSCILLATING MULTI-TOOL. 🤔

Note to self: Stop buying more tools. 😅

    Darn it,

EXCLUDES CHILDRENS TOYS THAT RESEMBLE POWER TOOLS

    • +3

Does that rule out old Ozito stuff

  • Last time this was on Sydney Tools just dropped the price of the skins by $100. Hoping for a repeat

    • Doesn't look like it this year. The tool I bought was even more expensive @ ST than Bunnings.

  • Pretty sure I heard mitre10 is doing it too on the radio

Good deal but poor selection of tools.

I’m sure they know people will trade in worthless junk, and factor the $100 into the price of everything. It’s not like they will even recycle or fix them, it’s just going to landfill.

I was thinking of trading in my old Bosch green drill but it’s still great to use (Li-ion) as a secondary drill.

  • Hmmmm this deal is skins for skins? I don't have DeWalt tools. So have to get an extra batteries?

    • You're probably better off buying a kit including battery to get started, maybe a 2-piece kit with drill, driver, and a battery or two..

There's these $299 kits around at the moment that look "ok", not a great deal though, and you're probably better off getting a couple of batteries, it's a pain to be swapping batteries between tools:

If you ever plan to use power hungry tools like the angle grinder try to get 4AH or higher batteries..

      • yes 4Ah or higher. As much for the longer run time but some tools just work better with larger batteries (due to ability to supply more current)

(EXCLUDES CORDED/PETROL POWER TOOLS, BATTERIES/BATTERY CHARGERS, TORCHES/LIGHTING, COMPACT BLOWERS, REPLICA/CHILDRENS TOYS THAT RESEMBLE POWER TOOLS)

      Seems like any brand works

      • yep. I was scouring my tool collection and found an old Dick Smith (pre Kogan) branded cordless drill which I used. It doesn't even need to be working.

  • I'm assuming you can only trade in one item and can't add it up by giving multiple items

    • MAXIMUM ONE TRADE-IN FOR EVERY BARE UNIT PURCHASED

So looks like you can trade multiples however you can only trade in 1 for each skin bought

  • Also seems to be off RRP "Trade-in any cordless power tool skin/bare unit to receive a $100 discount (including GST) off the retail price on a nominated DEWALT brushless bare unit"

    • Yeah wouldn't it be cheaper if you buy when it on sales?

      • I saw the tool I was looking for on Amazon BF sale (it was up for a short while so missed out) but this ended up $40 cheaper for me anyway.

You can purchase only selected DeWalt tools under this offer. Those are top of the range tools that are the most expensive. I could buy them $100 cheaper from eBay and keep my old tool or buy a kit when they are on sale for cheaper price per tool.

For example DEWALT BRUSHLESS HAMMER DRILL DRIVER DCD996 XR is around $320 but you can buy it for around $200. So far the best drill that I have ever worked with.

    • Feel free to post ebay links. I looked up the tool I ended up getting and could not find it anywhere close to that level of discount (brand new with Australian warranty) from a seller I could go to if there was a problem.

Yes a kit is definitely a better buy if you have no batteries but this is really for ppl like me who are upgrading to brushless or need a replacement tool.

I used a worthless tool as a trade in (or you can pick up a drill for like $5 on gumtree) - no one is going to trade in a decent tool unless it's broken and out of warranty.

The DCD996 example for around $200 on ebay is the US model. I have no issue with getting them cheaper on ebay but you'll have to go back to the ebay seller for warranty support.

The planer DCP580N-XE was priced at $269 when I bought it last Monday and traded a burnt out aldi drill skin for it - cost $169 after trade in.

They've now jacked the price to $339.

    • That is annoying me also as the price jacked, I was interested in the planer

  • I remember back a few years back total tools Melton weren't worried about which tool you got so I traded in like 10 old broken tools I got free on gumtree and got a load of DeWalt tools. A bunch free considering the price of the cheap impact driver and vacuum were not much more than 100 at the time so yeah… Worth checking with your total tools locally and see what mood they are in. The select range is only the high end stuff but they may be willing to make exceptions
