Band-Aid Advanced Healing 50% off (Regular $3.59/Large/Blister Block/Jumbo/Blister Cushion) C&C/in-Store @ Chemist Warehouse

1250

Popped into Chemist Warehouse today to pick up a pack of these found out the whole range is half price.

I have never seen them below $6.00. I use Amazon S&S to get them at around that price point. They can be up to $9 in colesworth and more in other chemists.

Amazon are price matching, with S&S down to $3.23 on the regular:

Why they are awesome and you should try some

I have a mild case of compulsive/subconscious picking as well as regular breakouts of Dishydrosis and these are brilliant for both.

For the picking they help heal the wound beautifully to a point where it can't be picked at anymore, plus they stay on amazingly well so can be on there long enough to get the skin to that point.

For the Dishydrosis I find that it seems like the fluid is a lot of what causes the crazy itchiness - if I have one of these on I can't itch the area and annoy it, plus it soaks up the fluid.

They are crazy good for angry pimples as well - once the pimple is lanced the bandaid will stop it from healing over and blowing up again and will just suck out all of the nastiness.

I have also put them on my kid's mosquito bites to stop them scratching and infecting them - also a great use case.

I can't really think of any example where I would choose a normal band-aid over one of these. They don't really work well on hair - so arms and legs can be difficult - that is the main drawback. But then neither do normal bandaids.

I go through about 4 x 10 packs a month which hurts a bit at $0.70 per band-aid. $0.35 per band-aid is a much more palatable experience.

I only use the regular ones - so when I saw the sale I cleared the shelves of those - 12 in all. Will probably pick some more up online so I have a years supply

I am in no way associated with Band-Aid - I just think these are a brilliant product that people don't really know about. Get some, you won't regret it.

Thanks for attending my Ted Talk.

    • Funny enough I actually put a chisel straight into my thumb a few weeks ago - the chisel was just sharpened so it was a deep but very clean cut. Put one of these on it and it did an amazing job of holding the cut together to allow it to heal - can't even see where it was now.

    Moist :)

    They dont have S&S

Amazon do though - and they are price matching as per my post.

I frankly think we should support ANYONE over Amazon at this point - but I didn't want to bring that level of controversy into a deal post. Happy to piss about in the comments though…

I was really keen to go with Amazon but they have minimum purchase of 3 :(

        • Get 3. You won't be sorry.

Absolute game changer when it comes to pimples. I love em.

That is how I got started. Now I pretty much just preemptively wear them all over my body in case any part of me thinks about breaking out.

    • When do you put this in a pimple? When it starts breaking out, or when it's reached its peak?

      • I’d like to know aswell

        • You can actually buy small circular hydro colloidal patches that are similar to this - but I find them not to be as effective. I will normally cut up some of the "regular" size ones into little patches for small pimples.

People who are fanatical about them think that you can put them on as soon as you feel a pimple starting and they will magically cure it - but I don't agree with that.

I find the best outcome is when it has come to a head to sanitise a pin/needle, pop the pimple from the side and very gently squeeze the pus out, then apply the bandaid. My theory is that way the bandaid holds the moisture in stops the surface of the pimple from healing again and the properties of the hydro colloidal dress wick the pus away - so instead of it blowing up again and you squeezing it again it will just drain effectively and then heal.

Having said all of that, I put one on as soon as I feel one forming because I am not a grown up and can't stop myself feeling it, squeezing it, scratching it etc. Having the bandaid on helps me not make it 10 times worse - when it feels like it might be ready to pop I will pull the bandaid off, lance it as above and then put a new bandaid on.

/Not a doctor. Don't @ me about popping my pimples with a needle - you do you, I will be over here doing me.

Ninja edit - here is a review on Mamamia of patches just made for pimples. I have tried them - I don't find they stick well and come off too easily - but ymmv. Check out the pictures of what a dressing looks like once it has sucked up a bunch of gunk. So satisfying…

    • How long does it take to get rid of FOR YOU.

I get this white string lol more than pimples and i hate it cause they are harder to take out

  • Nice one op.
I will give these a go, Im not sure if my skin condition is Dishydrosis as it seems to also affect my forearms too but I know how insanely annoyingly itchy it can get.

    • Probably not - Dishydrosis is primarily palms & fingers and the soles of the feet and toes.

All the same, I have found the hydro colloidal dressings help with itchiness in general - mosquito bites, healing scabs etc.

  • 1-2 month lead time now

  • Thanks OP, giving them a try.

    Can combine with this.

  • I saw these in Chemist Warehouse when I was there earlier today. I would have picked some up if I knew they were so effective and useful for more than just cuts.

  • I swear by these things. Cuts don't sting in the shower any more.

    • So much this. Also in a pandemic it stops hand sanitizer doubling as cut finder…

  • Prob not worth it for my once a year band aid use. But if the kids one were on sale I would buy them all!

  • These ‘advanced’ bandaid are a game changer for me since I get really bad scarring which leaves hideous brown marks that won’t fo away for months/years. But with these my wound stay moist and doesn’t dry up leaving it to heal properly

    • So much this. I scratch and pick at lumps and bumps on my neck and shoulders and they are just a long term mess of healed scabs - at least I am not making any more now.

  • I use hydrocolloid dressings for mountain biking injuries. I tried other water proof types but they caused skin infections despite having the wound cleaned professionally. hydrocolloid are not a miracle cure, for instance I had some gravel embedded in the first two knuckles of my pinky and ring finger, pulled it back and scrubbed raw flesh with a scrubbing brush then applied these bandaids for about a month, I still have hard pink scarring and possibly some foreign objects under the skin.

  • Can you just buy the larger ones and cut them to size depending on need?

    • +3

      Yes and no.

The material is thicker in the middle and thinner at the edges so the edges conform and stick down better. I find that if I cut a chunk out of the middle it won't stay on as long and I will end up using more than one piece to get healed - so could be false economy.

TLDR - it works, but it isn't great. But sure that is the Ozbargain way.

  • I know this is a rather specific question but I have a blister right in the middle of my palm from shovelling loam. I need to play tennis today, will this hold on?

    • I think the big oval ones might, I have one on my palm right now!

Wash really well with soap to get the oils off you skin, then when you apply is spend a while smoothing it down, especially the edges.

I don’t know if it will stand up to a whole match, but it can’t hurt to try.

      Report back!

  • no longer available at amazon
