Are costdeal.com.au legit?

http://www.costdeal.com.au/team.php?id=173

They have a thermomix for sale for $999, they had the same item a few days ago for $699 and hadn't sold many. I believe thermomixs are only meant to be sold through consultants and have never seem them anywhere this cheap, is it too good to be true? Has anyone purchased from this site before?

Thanks

  • They've made a few posts on here, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/costdeal.com.au

Doesn't seem like anyone has bought anything from them. There is a similar thread that has started on Whirlpool asking the same question, http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1892466 .

  • On their question page, they keep dodgy the part about the warranty. They say it is new, etc, but do not address the warranty part of the question.

  • Thanks guys.

  • Well, I rang them, and the answer is that the two-year warranty is handled by "the supplier". Further questioning shows the supplier to be in Germany. I said to the girl on the phone (who speaks English, but not all that well) that shipping it to Germany would be prohibitively expensive, and she said purchasers ship it back to them, and they send it to Germany themselves. They said it would go via airfreight and take "a week".

    So there you go.

    • I guess the warrany will only be as good as the group buy company. Their solvency and reputation are relevant. What if you send it to NSW, then they send it to Germany. Germany says it's your fault or not broken (or the group buy company says that is the case). Will you be stabbed for the freight? Who bears the risk if the item goes missing? After a certain point, you can't do a credit card chargeback.

I'd rather find a reputable dealer in Germany and deal with them myself.

It is a shame that the Australian licensee for this product is not passing on the currency savings….. It should be about 40% or more less than the current price.

  • I bought it.. was a good price.
In regards to the warranty. I can't believe that in Australia, Thermomix only give you a 1 year warranty for a machine that is 2k and sometimes 4 times the price of any other machine.

    • So is the order still live? I got the impression from them that it had fallen over.

And yeah, that the warranty is a rip-off is to stay in character with the price, etc.

      • Hey Mic,

What gave you the impression it had fallen over? (I don;t have a horse in this race, just curious.)

        • I rang them again once it closed to see if it was still going to happen and got asked if I'd paid and something about refunds, but it was all very unclear, and I wasn't able to make sense of it.

(I didn't dig too hard, I was just interested because over at WP one of the TM fanatics was raving on about court injunctions, etc, (not that he could name any actual reasons for one, besides his fanatical love for being ripped off by the local distro.))

I'd been thinking about it, but was swaying towards the side of "too many variables", but then they closed it at 110 sold anyway. (Which was another reason I rang, as they'd given no indication that it was a limited offer.)

  • Thanks Mic

    • According to a poster on WP it has fallen over, so good luck with the process from here to any who bought one.
