Getting a Second Xbox, Can I Share Xbox Game Pass Subscription?

I have an XBox One and my son is wanting to buy an Xbox Series X or S; preferably an X but I don't think he will be able to get one before Christmas or early in the new year so he may have to settle for an S.

I have a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription that I purchased on my Microsoft account. Each of my kids have their own login for Xbox. I don't use the Xbox at all so I'm not that familiar with how everything works.

I realise I can set up family sharing so that games I have purchased can be played across both consoles.

Do I have to buy another Game Pass subscription for the new Xbox? If so, I gather I'd have to buy it under one of my son's names. If I can share it, can both XBox's be used at the same time to play the game pass games?

You can, set your son's Xbox as your home console and any account logged into it will share your purchases.

As said, you'll need to set his Xbox as your home Xbox so anyone can access it on that one.
You will be able to access it on your Xbox with your login.
    It's all explained here

    • So the new Xbox Series X/S will be set as the home Xbox. After i sign in under my profile, Master A signs into his and enjoys playing the Xbox games that come with ultimate under his profile. Master H can do the same.

Marter L can continue to sign in to his account on the Xbox One and play under his profile, also enjoying the Xbox games that come with the ultimate subscription that are downloaded?

      Do I have that right?

Anyone that logs in to the home console will get access to everything you have (game pass, downloaded games etc) along with anything they have.

Only you will get access to the game pass and games on the other ("non home") console.

If you want two kids to have game pass access on one console and another kid to have it on the other console, you'll have to get another game pass subscription or set it all up in the other kid's account and you don't get access. If 2 people want access on each console, you'll need another subscription.

        • Only you will get access to the game pass and games on the other ("non home") console

          Thank you.

  • Yes. I had 3 Xbox’s in my home and 2 ump subscriptions

Set the console that hasn’t got a paid subscription as the home console and after you done that logon with the account that hasn’t got the paid sub.

Ie. logon to that console with the paid sub, set as home, logout, login with non paying sub account.

With the other console, have the user with the paid sub logged in to that one (don’t make this a home console)

    • With the other console, have the user with the paid sub logged in to that one (don’t make this a home console

I have the paid sub with my microsoft account. I have all the family log in details for me and the kids on this Xbox One. To take advantage of not having to buy a second sub, does the child with the Xbox One (which is now not the home console) need to log in as me?

Logon to the console that won’t have a sub with your account. Go to settings and make it the home console.

Then log in with the account that doesn’t have the sub on that Xbox and they’ll have all the same benefits.

Ps. Not sure why someone downvoted my advice. If something is wrong with it, at least help the guy out with a reply

        • Thanks, and my other son can log into the old xbox as himself and play or does he have to log in as me?

I fixed whoever negged you. If someone disagrees they should explain why rather than neg.

@heal: Which ever Xbox is the home console. a non subscribed account can log in to that Xbox and can play as if they did have a subscription

Since that old Xbox is not your home Xbox, he'll need to log in as you before he logs in.
