Drinking at Work

I must start this post by saying I'm currently sitting at my desk at 7:26pm… and yes I've had a few (many).

The place I work at right now used to be awesome. We have a big bar with all you can drink (until it runs out, to be replenished by a delivery man the next day). We used to have fun people here, who would crawl to the train station at 1am to get the last train home on a Thursday or Friday night. Now, I'm sitting here by myself trawling OzBargain. Having one (some) more because its free (true OzBargain style).

What with all the tightening OH&S regulations I suspect this kind of liberal view of employers toward alcohol will be a thing of the past.

Do any of you guys work in a place with free booze and an a party atmosphere? I want some stories!

I once worked in a cafe where my boss and colleages were either Polish or Russian. I was the only one there who wasn't European… didn't quite fit in because of that, but I worked hard anyway and they didn't mind.

Anyway it was Saturday night, after a particularly busy night we closed shop but the boss and colleagues stayed behind to talk. They opened a bottle of Polish vodka and we started drinking. They all drank like Russians and me being the only non-Russian in the workplace, subjectively speaking I don't have a particularly high tolerance to alcohol.

They just kept offering me another glass (can't refuse because it's considered rude in russian customs) after about the 6th or 7th shot, I excused myself, left the cafe and nearly threw up on the pavement.

Suffice to say, I probably won't drink with Russians ever again.

this has been disappearing for a while

i used to work at places that started drinks at lunchtime friday… and then continued all night

another place supplied a keg and nibbles every friday and i deliberately left my car at home because i knew no temptation was the best choice

its disappearing because all it takes is an assault or a car crash or some incident and its gone for everyone

  • booze banned onsite.

I used to work in a place where there were always after work drinks and it was expected that you would stay for a few, so you ended up having to spend more time with the same morons you had spent all day with instead of being able to go home and see people you actually choose to spend time with

    • it still happens to a degree in that most places will have friday drinks at the local

that's fine but i never fit in because its mainly old folks i work with so… meh to that

  • So the place used to be awesome. They still provide free grog. It's just that the employees aren't interested.

Still sounds awesome. Just don't abuse it by taking roadies with you.

  • Go work for Lion Nathan, plenty of free drinks to be had every Thursday and Friday arvo.

Do you work at Sterling Cooper?

  • I used to have a boss at my old work who liked a drop or 7 on fridays.

as I was the youngest male in the company she would call on me at 2pm to get a trolley and we would walk to uncle dans 1 block away and stock up on beer, wine and mixers. excellent

she moved on to a better job and the new boss was clueless moronic idiot……
