I have a blackberry bold 9700 with 6 months left to run on a $29 contract. I also managed to secure BIS (BES?)for $5 a month for the life of the contract, so it's dirt cheap internet.
With a shipload of $13.50 woolies mobile recharges in hand, I really don't the blackberry though, so am wondering whether I'd be better to try to get someone to take over the $29 contract, or to simply sell them the phone. I can't find any second hand 9700s for sale to get an idea of what they're going for.
To clarify, this is not a transaction I would conduct through OzB. Just after some input to decide on the better course of action.
Many thanks.
I looked through Google Shopping and found refurbished units selling for $199

Looking through ended listings, I see people paying as much as $220 and as little as $180 for used handsets.
You can either
a) pay off the rest of the contract - $174, and sell off the phone for around $200, and getting a little bit of money back.
b) get someone (like friend or family) to continue your contract for the remainder 6 months ($174 worth).
c) continue your contract, and getting near the end try and get Voda to waive the remainder 2 or 3 months. This would only work if you intend to take up another Vodafone contract though!
Option A is probably for the best — you don't really earn or lose anything that way and you get to offload your aging and depreciating device.
Option B is best if you actually know someone who doesn't mind taking over contract.
