After a long search I finally chanced upon the Jonsbo N1, a SFF design that accommodates 5 HDD for Unraid NAS. Anyone else building a small home NAS? Yes there is the Node 304 available, but pretty much everything else is like 8 drive bay behemoths :(

Yes don't know too much about cooling. I ordered the N1, it looks Sooooo much better than the DS380. The N1 comes with a backplane too, so I'm going to build it with a 5700G.
I have a DS380. Its an OK case.
The cooling stock is POOR - but you can improve it - better fans and some baffles to direct airflow.
I also remove the dust filters in summer.
Hi OP,
could you share the parts breakdown for your NAS?
Also, any reason you didn't want the Node 304?
Cheers and good luck with your build
To be honest, I didn't like the look of the Node 304 (its around 20l vs 13l of the N1), plus the N1 has the backplane for hotswaps like the DS380. You give up on any adequate GPUs with the N1, but as a NAS……5700G graphics is more than enough.
Parts breakdown :
5700G
16gb DDR-3600 Corsair Vengeance LP RGB
Jonsbo N1
Corsair SF750
3 x 12TB from old NAS
1TB Kingston A2000 from old NAS
Asrock B550 Phantom Gaming ITX
Noctua NH-L12 Loque Ghost edition. Thanks for the reply.
I've been trying to decide on a NAS for far too long. DIY appeals to me a lot but I'm also pretty intimidated by it so it's good to hear what other people are doing.
Cheers!
Why not Noctua NH-12S, which is 70mm height, that also meet the case CPU cooler clearance.
It does, but at its limit. I don't want to buy at and then find out I'm slightly out from the max cooler height.
I am interested in the N1 case as well - to replace a Microserver G8. Very interested on the cooling aspect.
yeah, unfortunately, locally, only PLE stock it. Mine arrives toimorrow.
I wonder what cooling is like on that N1? Nice looking case but would struggle with cooling IMO.
Another option is the Silverstone DS380. 8 drives. Supports SAS. Hot Swappable. Slightly bigger (but not that much). Uglier.
