Sony x90J vs Hisense U9G

Hi everyone,

Tossing up between the two TV's mentioned above. Looking at buying a new 65" TV and want some help deciding on what to get around the $2k or less mark.

  • The only reason to buy the Sony is for its gaming features.

If you're not a serious gamer, the Hisense plus a GoogleTV dongle (to overcome the downsides of the Hisense VIIDA operating system) comes in far cheaper and should have better picture quality.

Throw in the TCL C825 as well.

The only reason to buy the Sony is for its gaming features.

      And better user interface
      And proper Google TV functionality
And a faster, more responsive SoC (MediaTek MT5895 vs NovaTek NT72671D)
      And subjectively better styling

That said, there's lot to be said for the much longer standard consumer warranty on the Hisense TVs.

      • If you watch most of your content through the Chromecast with Google TV, the first three points are probably not that relevant as you won't be interacting with the Hisense user interface all that often. And I would expect the U9G to have a better picture. I haven't seen it in person yet but I have used the X90J quite a lot and it's good but not spectacular.

  • Definitely not the hisense, doesn't have any hdmi 2.1 ports

    • It really doesn't matter for casual gaming.

Just be patient and wait for the A80J to go on special and make your budget a little higher. For the period of time you'll own it, it's worth the extra to know you have the best.

  • Try finding somewhere with the hisense on display. An airbnb I stayed in once had a hisense TV and the software was pretty average - it took more than a minute from when you pressed the button to when it was on and functioning.

I got that Sony directly from Sony via pricematch of the CostCo deal and it's been great. Hisense may have improved but worth testing out, that TV frustrated the hell out of me for the few days I was there.

    • The hisense TV's are not the same as the ones that they sell overseas, they've basically taken all the good stuff out of it and stuck the same name badge and price.

  • JAPAN for the WIN.

  • This might help you out in regards to a more in depth review of the Sony. I am looking at getting the Sony also https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x90j

Dont really want to stretch my budget out to the LG C1 price range and if i can get the JBHIFI gift cards with 15% off this should come down to the 1800 mark which for me beats the Hisense as somebody else mentioned it is not the same model as the international ones.

Where do you get 15% off?

I have been using the U9G for 48 hours now, running various YouTube test videos, and I am seriously impressed. The contrast is fantastic, closer to oled than the Sony. On some of the test videos the upscaling, banding and juddering was noticeable, I think the Sony would do that better but I can't say for sure, but watching streaming services I couldn't notice these anyway. And I haven't calibrated yet or gone through all the settings, so hopefully can only get better from here. The only thing I can notice when streaming is sometimes the TV doesn't brighten for instance a person enough in a dark scene, preferring to give preference to the dark areas, but hopefully some settings might fix this.

For the price for a 75, I would recommend. I'm very impressed.

    • UPDATE: After over a month now with this TV I have changed my mind, DO NOT BUY. Its pretty awful, my parent U8G is better than this with HDR, motion and blooming control.

      • Oh no, I bought it after reading your good review.
Motion control and blooming are terrible as you said above.

        • I think with most hisense TV’s it’s best to turn motion off completely
